Stansted sits off the M11 at junction 8, which puts it closer to Cambridge, Suffolk, Norfolk and north and mid Essex than any other London airport – genuine local geography, not a marketing line. Many of the destinations on this page have no direct rail link to Stansted, and reaching them by train means at least one change, cases and all. A fixed-price chauffeur, part of the wider Stansted Airport transfer network, runs the direct road route instead, one booking, no changes.

MILE5 is a TfL-licensed private hire operator, licence 009161, with 15+ years and 50,000 completed airport transfers behind it, and a five-star Google rating from real riders – read what our clients say. Every driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, and the same fixed-price, flight-tracked standard is the whole basis of the MILE5 service, whether the destination is fifteen minutes up the A120 or three hours down the M40. MILE5 also runs the reverse leg for passengers connecting onward: an airport-to-airport transfer to or from Stansted books the same way.

£76 is MILE5’s lowest confirmed Stansted fare (E-Class, Bishop’s Stortford); S-Class and V-Class are fixed per route – see each destination’s own page for the exact fare. All prices are fixed, all inclusive, and start from the amounts shown. Final quote depends on exact postcode, vehicle choice, and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.

Every fixed price includes in-terminal meet-and-greet in the arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge is absorbed on every route, and where a journey does enter London first – a handful of these routes cross the M25 – MILE5 also absorbs any ULEZ or Congestion Charge cost rather than passing it on. Luggage handling, child seats on request at an extra charge and 24-hour availability apply across the whole regional network.

The table below covers the full regional and long-distance network MILE5 prices from Stansted, from £76 for the shortest run on the network, Bishop’s Stortford, out to £450 for Bristol on the far side of the country. The Regional Catchment Stansted Actually Owns

Essex and Hertfordshire make up the closest part of this network: Bishop’s Stortford at 5.2 miles is the shortest run MILE5 will do from the airport, Great Dunmow sits about fifteen minutes east along the A120, Harlow is a short run south down the M11, and Braintree, Chelmsford, Brentwood and Basildon spread out across the Essex commuter belt the M11 and A12 both serve. Hertford, Stevenage, Welwyn Garden City, St Albans and Royston cover the Hertfordshire side, with Royston sitting right on the Cambridgeshire border. Cambridge is the network’s flagship: about thirty minutes up the M11, carrying student arrivals, conference delegates and family visits. Newmarket and Ely extend the same corridor, one built around racing traffic and training yards, the other around the cathedral visible for miles across the fens.

Suffolk and Norfolk are where MILE5’s case gets strongest, because the rail alternative genuinely thins out. Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds run the A12 and A14 respectively, Felixstowe adds Britain’s largest container port to the network, and Norwich, King’s Lynn and Great Yarmouth push the furthest into Norfolk – Norwich has its own airport but almost no long-haul service, so a fixed-price road transfer from Stansted is a genuine alternative for travellers whose flight only touches one of the two. Beyond the core catchment, MILE5 also covers the national leisure and business routes that don’t fit a regional label – the Cotswolds, Bath, Bristol, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Silverstone on a race weekend, Windsor and Ascot to the west, and Southampton Cruise Terminal for passengers going straight from a landing to a sailing.

Coach, Rail Changes or a Direct Chauffeur

Much of this network has no direct rail service from Stansted – a journey to Ipswich or Norwich by train means changing at Cambridge, and the Cotswolds means routing back through London, with cases changed across two or three services. National Express coaches cover a handful of these towns, but on a timetable, not on demand, and rarely with a fixed price that includes waiting time for a delayed flight. A chauffeur transfer runs the direct road route instead: one booking, one fixed price agreed before travel, and a driver who already knows the A120, the A14 and the M11 well enough not to need three changes to find them.

What Running the Regional Network Has Taught Us

The clearest lesson from this network is that distance and journey time don’t move together in a straight line. Bishop’s Stortford and Cambridge both run up largely motorway roads and cover their miles quickly; Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds cover similar distances on slower A-roads through market towns, and take noticeably longer for the same mileage. The second lesson is seasonal: race weekends at Newmarket and Silverstone, Royal Ascot week, and the Cambridge student arrival dates all move journey times on their specific routes well outside the normal range, and MILE5’s drivers plan around those dates rather than treating every Tuesday on the M11 the same.

Picking Up at Stansted for a Long-Distance Transfer

Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay doesn’t affect your pickup time or cost you the booking. Airport parking charges at the terminal are absorbed by MILE5, and from there it’s a direct run onto the M11, A120 or A12 depending on where you’re headed. Check the arrivals board and MILE5’s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

For journeys staying inside London itself, MILE5’s Stansted Airport hotel transfers and Stansted Airport to central London transfers pages cover the city’s hotels and districts individually, each with their own fixed-price table.

Stansted Long-Distance Chauffeur – Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Stansted Airport long distance chauffeur transfer?

Fares start from £76 one way for the shortest run on the network, Bishop’s Stortford, and rise from there by distance and vehicle class, with E-Class fares up to £450 for the furthest, Bristol. Every route has its own fixed fare across E-Class, S-Class and V-Class, shown on that route’s own page.

How much does a full-time chauffeur cost in the UK?

A dedicated chauffeur booked by the hour or day typically runs into hundreds of pounds depending on vehicle and duration. MILE5’s long-distance transfers are priced per route instead, as a single fixed one-way fare agreed before you travel, not an hourly rate.

Does Stansted have direct trains to Cambridge, Essex or Suffolk?

Stansted has direct trains to Cambridge, Bishop’s Stortford and Harlow, but most other Essex and Suffolk towns need at least one change, often at Cambridge or on the London line. A chauffeur transfer runs the direct road route instead, with no change.

Is MILE5 licensed to operate at Stansted Airport?

Yes. MILE5 Limited is a TfL-licensed private hire operator (licence 009161) providing fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur airport transfers across London and the wider region, with 15+ years and 50,000+ transfers completed.

What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. Every long-distance booking is flight-tracked, so a delayed landing shifts your driver’s pickup time automatically rather than costing you the fare or the booking.

Do you cover journeys to Stansted Airport as well as from it?

Yes – every route MILE5 runs from Stansted also runs in reverse, at the same fixed price, whether that’s a Cambridge collection, an Essex pickup or a longer regional run.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a group travelling long distance?

Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with luggage space to match, so a group travels together in one vehicle with no changes and one fixed fare.
