Stansted Airport to Waterloo Transfer – Fixed Price to the South Bank
A Stansted Airport to Waterloo transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 55 to 75 minutes door to door and from £198 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, Waterloo to Stansted Airport, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse. Waterloo is both a destination in its own right, for the South Bank’s theatres and galleries, and one of Britain’s busiest commuter termini – worth knowing before you book: there’s no direct airport train from here, and the Stansted Express runs from Liverpool Street.
This journey is one of the routes on our Stansted chauffeur service page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

Waterloo sits close to 39 miles south-west of Stansted Airport – see our central London route list for every other district MILE5 covers. The route runs the M11 before crossing central London, and in normal traffic that’s around 55 to 75 minutes.

All prices are fixed and all-inclusive, agreed before you travel, in both directions. Final quote depends on exact pickup or drop-off address, vehicle choice and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.
Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and so is the ULEZ charge and the Congestion Charge where the journey into Waterloo crosses into the zone – the airport itself sits outside both, the charges belong to the journey, not the pickup. Split seven ways, £294 works out at £42 a head for the whole run – useful for a family or group travelling to the same show or the same train.
The South Bank and the Station
Immediately outside Waterloo station, the South Bank runs one of London’s densest concentrations of culture in a single walkable stretch – the National Theatre, the Southbank Centre, the BFI, and the riverside walk down toward the London Eye. It’s a genuine destination for a night out or a day of galleries, distinct from the station’s other role: one of the busiest commuter termini in the country, with trains fanning out across south-west England and the South West London suburbs all day, every day.
MILE5 covers Waterloo alongside Paddington from Stansted Airport and the Romford pickup page – three very different London termini, each drawing its own kind of booking.
No Airport Express Leaves From Here
Worth spelling out plainly, because it trips people up: there’s no direct airport rail link from Waterloo at all – the Gatwick Express leaves from Victoria and the Stansted Express from Liverpool Street. If you’re arriving into Stansted and heading on to Waterloo, the Stansted Express runs from Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale, and Waterloo is then a further Underground or bus journey away from either of those – not a direct connection. A booked chauffeur sidesteps that mismatch entirely, running door to door from the terminal you actually land at to the one you actually need.
Waterloo Chauffeur vs the Stansted Express vs a Hire Car
For one person travelling in daylight hours, the honest comparison starts with the train, not the car.
| Option | Journey time | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| MILE5 chauffeur | 55-75min | Door to door, fixed price, no airport-to-station mismatch to work around |
| Stansted Express + Underground | 48min to Liverpool St + a change | Wins on price for one person, but Waterloo needs a further Underground leg from Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale – there’s no direct rail link between the two |
| Hire car | 55-75min | Similar drive time, but parking around the South Bank and the station forecourt is scarce and expensive, on top of the ULEZ and Congestion Charge – both already built into MILE5’s fixed price |
For a family or group travelling to the same show or the same train, the better comparison is a pre-booked chauffeur against a minicab booked at short notice – see MILE5’s comparison of Addison Lee against Uber in London.
What Running This Route Has Taught Us
The Stansted Express is honestly the right call for one person catching a daytime train into Liverpool Street – it’s faster and it’s cheaper, and Waterloo is only a further Underground hop from there. Where the car earns its keep is at the edges: the first Stansted Express from Liverpool Street doesn’t leave until 04:40 Tuesday to Thursday, which is tight for the earliest departure wave out of Stansted, and the last train back from the airport leaves at 00:30, so a late-evening landing can miss it altogether. That gap, in both directions, is where a pre-booked fixed-price car earns its keep over a train-and-Underground combination that was never designed to connect these two stations directly.
Your Driver at Stansted Airport
Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5‘s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

Yes – every booking runs in both directions at the same fixed price, whether you’re travelling out to Waterloo or making the Waterloo to Stansted Airport run afterwards.
Does the Stansted Express run from Waterloo?

Both – the South Bank alongside the station is a genuine cultural destination (National Theatre, Southbank Centre, the London Eye nearby), while the station itself is a major commuter terminus for south-west England and the South West London suburbs.
