Stansted Airport to The Savoy Hotel Transfer – Fixed Price to Savoy Court

A Stansted Airport to The Savoy Hotel transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 55 to 75 minutes door to door and from £198 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, The Savoy Hotel to Stansted Airport, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse. The Savoy sits behind Savoy Court, a genuine one-off in British road law, and the drop-off itself is part of the arrival experience.

This journey is one of the routes on our luxury Stansted airport transfer page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

All prices are fixed and all-inclusive, agreed before you travel, in both directions. Final quote depends on exact pickup or drop-off address, vehicle choice and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.

Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and so is the ULEZ charge and the Congestion Charge where the journey into The Savoy Hotel crosses into the zone – the airport itself sits outside both, the charges belong to the journey, not the pickup. Split seven ways, £294 works out at £42 a head for the whole run – a practical option for a family or group arriving together.

Savoy Court – Britain’s One Right-Hand-Drive Street

Savoy Court, the short private road leading up to the hotel entrance, is the only street in Britain where traffic legally drives on the right rather than the left. The rule is said to date back to the horse-drawn era, when it let a hackney carriage driver reach out and open the passenger door, which opened backwards, without leaving the cab, and it has simply never been changed. It means the drop-off itself is part of arriving at The Savoy: MILE5 drivers who run this route regularly know to approach Savoy Court correctly rather than treat it as an ordinary junction off the Strand.

The drop-off point is the courtyard in front of the hotel, not the Strand itself – a detail that matters for exactly how the last thirty seconds of the journey plays out.

The Strand, Aldwych and Theatreland

The Savoy sits on the Strand, at the edge of Theatreland and a short walk from Aldwych’s curved crescent of grand buildings. MILE5 covers two more hotels in this immediate cluster – the Stansted to One Aldwych page and book Ham Yard Hotel from Stansted – each a short walk from the Savoy but distinct enough in address and character to need its own page. For the wider area, see the Covent Garden arrival page.

The Savoy Hotel Chauffeur vs the Stansted Express vs a Hire Car

For one person travelling in daylight hours, the honest comparison starts with the train, not the car.

OptionJourney timeWorth knowing
MILE5 chauffeur55-75minDoor to door directly into Savoy Court, fixed price, no transfer or walk with luggage
Stansted Express + Underground48min to Liverpool St + a changeWins on price for one person, but the Strand needs a further Underground leg from Liverpool Street – workable solo, less so with luggage
Hire car55-75minSimilar drive time, but Savoy Court’s one-off right-hand approach catches out a driver who has never used it before, on top of the ULEZ and Congestion Charge – both already built into MILE5’s fixed price

For a family or group arriving together, the better comparison is a pre-booked chauffeur against a minicab booked at short notice – see MILE5’s comparison of Uber Exec against Uber Lux in London.

What Running This Route Has Taught Us

The Stansted Express is honestly the right call for one person catching a daytime train into Liverpool Street – it’s faster and it’s cheaper, and the Strand is only a short further hop from there. Where the car earns its keep is at the edges: the first Stansted Express from Liverpool Street doesn’t leave until 04:40 Tuesday to Thursday, which is tight for the earliest departure wave out of Stansted, and the last train back from the airport leaves at 00:30, so a late-evening landing can miss it altogether. That gap, in both directions, is where a pre-booked fixed-price car earns its keep – and a driver who already knows to approach Savoy Court correctly saves the confusion of the one street in Britain that drives on the right.

Your Driver at Stansted Airport

Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5‘s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

Stansted to The Savoy Hotel Chauffeur – Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Stansted Airport to The Savoy Hotel transfer?

Fares start from £198 one way in the E-Class, £289 in the S-Class and £294 in the V-Class, fixed and agreed before you travel, the same in both directions.

Do you cover The Savoy Hotel to Stansted Airport transfers too?

Yes – every booking runs in both directions at the same fixed price, whether you’re travelling out to The Savoy or making the The Savoy Hotel to Stansted Airport run afterwards.

Why does traffic drive on the right at Savoy Court?

It’s a genuine one-off said to date from the horse-drawn era, letting a hackney carriage driver open the passenger door without stepping down from the cab. MILE5 drivers who run this route regularly know how to approach it correctly.

How long does the drive from Stansted Airport to The Savoy Hotel take?

Around 55 to 75 minutes in normal traffic, running the M11 before crossing central London.

Is the Stansted Express cheaper than a chauffeur to The Savoy?

On price alone for one person, yes. It’s about 48 minutes to Liverpool Street, but the Strand needs a further Underground change from there, which doesn’t help with luggage.

Where exactly does the car drop off?

In the courtyard in front of the hotel entrance, reached via Savoy Court – not on the Strand itself.

What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. Every Savoy Hotel booking is flight-tracked, so a delayed landing shifts your driver’s pickup time automatically rather than costing you the fare or the booking.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a family or group?

Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with matching luggage space, and at £294 for the whole vehicle that works out at £42 a head for a full group.
