Stansted Airport to Paddington Transfer – Fixed Price to the Basin and the Canal

A Stansted Airport to Paddington transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 60 to 80 minutes door to door and from £217 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, Paddington to Stansted Airport, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse. This page covers Paddington Basin and the canal-side offices around it rather than the station itself – most people booking this route from Stansted are heading to a building on the water, not catching a connecting train.

This journey is one of the routes on our luxury Stansted airport transfer page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

Paddington sits close to 47 miles south-west of Stansted Airport – see our full London route list from Stansted for every other district MILE5 covers. The route runs the M11 and the North Circular before crossing west London, and in normal traffic that’s around 60 to 80 minutes.

All prices are fixed and all-inclusive, agreed before you travel, in both directions. Final quote depends on exact pickup or drop-off address, vehicle choice and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.

Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and so is the ULEZ charge and the Congestion Charge where the journey into Paddington crosses into the zone – the airport itself sits outside both, the charges belong to the journey, not the pickup. Split seven ways, £324 works out at £46 a head for the whole run – one car for a team heading to the same canal-side office rather than several separate fares.

Paddington Basin and the Canal-Side Offices

Paddington Basin is where the Grand Union Canal opens out into a working office district – Merchant Square and the buildings around it house a cluster of corporate headquarters and media companies, all fronting directly onto the water rather than a conventional street. It reads more like a small business campus built around a marina than the transport interchange most people associate with the name. For a Stansted arrival heading here, the destination is a specific building on the canal, not the station concourse a few minutes’ walk away.

MILE5 covers Paddington alongside the wider west London cluster, including our Waterloo transfer service and transfers to Romford.

Little Venice and the Residential Streets Nearby

West of the basin, the canal opens further into Little Venice, where the water is lined with houseboats and some of the quietest residential streets in west London. It’s a genuinely different character from the office cluster a short walk east, and MILE5 sees a steady mix of both kinds of booking on this route – a canal-side office in the morning, a residential address near the water in the evening. A driver who knows the difference between the two, and confirms the exact building before pickup, saves a wrong-turn detour around the basin’s one-way system.

Paddington Chauffeur vs the Stansted Express vs a Hire Car

For one person travelling in daylight hours, the honest comparison starts with the train, not the car.

OptionJourney timeWorth knowing
MILE5 chauffeur60-80minDoor to door, fixed price, confirms the exact canal-side building or residential address before pickup
Stansted Express + Underground48min to Liverpool St + a cross-London legWins on price for one person, but Paddington sits on the far side of central London from Liverpool Street – the connecting leg adds real time and doesn’t help with luggage
Hire car60-80minSimilar drive time, but parking near the basin is scarce and metered – and the ULEZ is already built into MILE5’s fixed price

For a team heading to the same office, or an early meeting before the working day starts, the better comparison is a pre-booked chauffeur against a minicab booked at short notice – see MILE5’s comparison of Addison Lee against Uber in London.

What Running This Route Has Taught Us

The Stansted Express is honestly the right call for one person catching a daytime train into Liverpool Street – it’s faster and it’s cheaper. Paddington is a poor fit for that comparison though, because Liverpool Street sits on the wrong side of central London from the basin, and the connecting leg across town eats most of the time advantage the train had in the first place. Where the car earns its keep is at the edges too: the first trains out of Liverpool Street leave at 03:40 on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, 04:10 on Sundays and 04:40 Tuesday to Thursday, which is tight for the earliest departure wave out of Stansted, and the last train back from the airport leaves at 00:30, so a delayed late arrival lands into no train at all. That gap, in both directions, is where a pre-booked fixed-price car earns its keep over a train-and-Underground combination – and heading to a specific canal-side building, a driver who confirms the exact address in advance is worth more than the lower fare.

Your Driver at Stansted Airport

Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5’s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

Stansted to Paddington Chauffeur – Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Stansted Airport to Paddington transfer?

Fares start from £217 one way in the E-Class, £315 in the S-Class and £324 in the V-Class, fixed and agreed before you travel, the same in both directions.

Do you cover Paddington to Stansted Airport transfers too?

Yes – every booking runs in both directions at the same fixed price, whether you’re travelling out to Paddington or making the Paddington to Stansted Airport run afterwards.

Is this page about the train station?

No – this page is built around Paddington Basin and the canal-side offices and homes around it, not the station concourse. MILE5 drivers confirm the exact building before pickup.

How long does the drive from Stansted Airport to Paddington take?

Around 60 to 80 minutes in normal traffic, running the M11 and the North Circular before crossing west London.

Is the Stansted Express cheaper than a chauffeur to Paddington?

On price alone for one person, yes. But Paddington sits on the far side of central London from Liverpool Street, so the connecting leg across town eats into the time saving, and doesn’t help with luggage or a group.

Can my driver find a specific canal-side office or houseboat address?

Yes – tell MILE5 the exact address and the driver will confirm it before pickup, whether it’s an office at Merchant Square or a residential address near Little Venice.

What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. Every Paddington booking is flight-tracked, so a delayed landing shifts your driver’s pickup time automatically rather than costing you the fare or the booking.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a team travelling together?

Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with matching luggage space, and at £324 for the whole vehicle that works out at £46 a head for a full group.
