Stansted Airport to Kensington Transfer – Fixed Price to the Museum Quarter

A Stansted Airport to Kensington transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 70 to 95 minutes door to door and from £218 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, Kensington to Stansted Airport, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse.

This journey is one of the routes on our luxury Stansted airport transfer page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

Kensington sits close to 48 miles west of Stansted Airport, one of every London postcode covered on every London postcode we run from Stansted. The route runs the M11 and the North Circular before joining the Cromwell Road for the final approach, and in normal traffic that’s around 70 to 95 minutes.

All prices are fixed and all-inclusive, agreed before you travel, in both directions. Final quote depends on exact pickup or drop-off address, vehicle choice and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.

Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and so is the ULEZ charge and the Congestion Charge where the journey into Kensington crosses into the zone – the airport itself sits outside both, the charges belong to the journey, not the pickup. Split seven ways, £326 works out at £47 a head for the whole run, straightforward for a family or a group heading to the same address.

The Museum Quarter and the Embassies

Kensington carries the museum quarter along Exhibition Road and Cromwell Road – the V&A, the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum all sit within a few minutes’ walk of each other, which makes this one of the heaviest family and school-trip routes MILE5 runs. A few streets north, Kensington Palace Gardens carries one of the highest concentrations of embassies and diplomatic residences in London, and that mix of cultural and diplomatic traffic shapes the timing on this route as much as the distance does.

MILE5 covers Kensington alongside the wider west London cluster, including how we price Notting Hill and the Chelsea pickup page – book any of the three and the fixed price and the meet-and-greet at Stansted work exactly the same way.

Why the Cromwell Road Approach Matters

Most Kensington bookings arrive via the Cromwell Road, and on a school-holiday weekend or a big exhibition opening at one of the three museums, that stretch slows down well before you reach the postcode itself. MILE5 builds that into the timing rather than quoting a single optimistic figure and leaving you to discover the museum-quarter traffic on the day. For a hotel stay in the area, that same local knowledge covers the nearby The Kensington Hotel route.

Kensington Chauffeur vs the Stansted Express vs a Hire Car

For one person travelling in daylight hours, the honest comparison starts with the train, not the car.

OptionJourney timeWorth knowing
MILE5 chauffeur70-95minDoor to door, fixed price, briefed on museum-quarter and Cromwell Road traffic
Stansted Express48min to Liverpool St + a changeWins on price and time to Liverpool Street itself, but Kensington needs a further Tube change – add 25-35 minutes and it does nothing for luggage or a group
Hire car70-95minSimilar drive time, but you’re finding museum-quarter parking and the embassy security perimeter yourself

For a group with luggage arriving outside the Stansted Express’s hours, the better comparison is a pre-booked chauffeur against an app-based ride hailed at the kerb – see MILE5’s comparison of a chauffeur against Uber.

What Running This Route Has Taught Us

The Stansted Express is honestly the right call for one person catching a daytime train into Liverpool Street – it’s faster and it’s cheaper. Where the car earns its keep is at the edges: the first trains out of Liverpool Street leave at 03:40 on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, 04:10 on Sundays and 04:40 Tuesday to Thursday, which is tight for the earliest departure wave out of Stansted, and the last train back from the airport leaves at 00:30, so a delayed late arrival lands into no train at all. That gap, in both directions, is where a pre-booked fixed-price car earns its keep over a train ticket.

Your Driver at Stansted Airport

Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5’s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

Stansted to Kensington Chauffeur – Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Stansted Airport to Kensington transfer?

Fares start from £218 one way in the E-Class, £317 in the S-Class and £326 in the V-Class, fixed and agreed before you travel, the same in both directions.

Do you cover Kensington to Stansted Airport transfers too?

Yes – every booking runs in both directions at the same fixed price, whether you’re travelling out to Kensington or making the Kensington to Stansted Airport run afterwards.

Does the museum quarter add time to the journey?

It can, especially on school holidays or when a major exhibition opens at the V&A, the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum. MILE5 builds that into the timing rather than quoting an optimistic figure and leaving you to find out on the day.

How long does the drive from Stansted Airport to Kensington take?

Around 70 to 95 minutes in normal traffic, depending on the time of day and conditions on the Cromwell Road.

Is the Stansted Express cheaper than a chauffeur to Kensington?

On price alone for one person, yes. It’s about 48 minutes to Liverpool Street, but Kensington still needs a further Tube change, which adds time and doesn’t help with luggage or a group travelling together.

What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. Every Kensington booking is flight-tracked, so a delayed landing shifts your driver’s pickup time automatically rather than costing you the fare or the booking.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a family or group?

Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with matching luggage space, and at £326 for the whole vehicle that works out at £47 a head for a full group.

Where does my driver meet me at Stansted Airport?

Inside the arrivals hall, holding a name board, for every Kensington booking. Stansted has a single terminal, so there’s no terminal number or side to specify.
