Stansted Airport to Islington Transfer – Fixed Price to Upper Street and the Angel
A Stansted Airport to Islington transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 55 to 75 minutes door to door and from £187 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, Islington to Stansted Airport, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse. Islington is the first proper inner-London district you reach coming down the A10, which sets it apart from most of MILE5’s other London routes.
This journey is one of the routes on our Stansted chauffeur service page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

Islington sits close to 34 miles south-west of Stansted Airport – see the Stansted to London hub for every other district MILE5 covers. The route runs the A10 corridor south, and in normal traffic that’s around 55 to 75 minutes.

All prices are fixed and all-inclusive, agreed before you travel, in both directions. Final quote depends on exact pickup or drop-off address, vehicle choice and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.
Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and so is the ULEZ charge and the Congestion Charge where the journey into Islington crosses into the zone – the airport itself sits outside both, the charges belong to the journey, not the pickup. Split seven ways, £277 works out at £40 a head for the whole run, straightforward for a family or a group heading to the same address.
Upper Street, the Angel and Islington’s Theatre Strip
Islington’s identity runs along Upper Street, from the Angel down towards Highbury Corner – a dense run of restaurants, bars and independent shops that’s one of north London’s most walkable evening-out strips. The Almeida Theatre and Sadler’s Wells sit within the same few streets, alongside the antiques stalls of Camden Passage and the long-running Screen on the Green cinema. It’s a genuinely residential N1 postcode as much as a destination, which means MILE5 sees as many bookings to a home address here as to a hotel or venue.
MILE5 covers Islington alongside the wider north London termini cluster, including our Euston transfer, book Kings Cross from Stansted and transfers to Camden.
The A10 Approach: the First Proper Inner-London District
Most of MILE5’s London routes run the M11 and the North Circular before reaching central London. Islington is different – the road route comes down the A10 corridor through Edmonton and Tottenham, and Islington is the first district on that approach that genuinely feels like inner London rather than the outer ring. It’s a detail that matters less for the price than for what a driver should expect on the way in: different traffic patterns, different pinch points, and a different feel to the last few miles than the M11 routes most other pages on this site describe.
Islington Chauffeur vs the Stansted Express vs a Hire Car
For one person travelling in daylight hours, the honest comparison starts with the train, not the car.
| Option | Journey time | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| MILE5 chauffeur | 55-75min | Door to door, fixed price, comes in via the A10 rather than the busier M11 corridor |
| Stansted Express + change | 48min to Liverpool St + a change | Wins on price and time to Liverpool Street itself, but Islington needs a further Tube change – fine for one person without luggage, less so for a family or an evening out |
| Hire car | 55-75min | Similar drive time, but finding parking on Islington’s residential streets is genuinely difficult, and central London’s congestion charge and ULEZ apply on top – both already built into MILE5’s fixed price |
For a group heading out along Upper Street, or arriving outside the Stansted Express’s hours, the better comparison is a pre-booked chauffeur against a premium app-hailed car – see MILE5’s comparison of Uber Exec against Uber Lux in London.
What Running This Route Has Taught Us
The Stansted Express is honestly the right call for one person catching a daytime train into Liverpool Street – it’s faster and it’s cheaper. Where the car earns its keep is at the edges: the first trains out of London don’t leave until 05:30, or 06:00 Tuesday to Thursday, which misses check-in for the earliest departure wave out of Stansted, and the last train back from the airport leaves at 00:30, so a delayed late arrival lands into no train at all. That gap, in both directions, is where a pre-booked fixed-price car earns its keep over a train ticket – and coming home late from a show at the Almeida or Sadler’s Wells, a fixed-price car booked in advance beats hunting for a cab on Upper Street.
Your Driver at Stansted Airport
Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5’s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

Stansted to Islington Chauffeur – Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a Stansted Airport to Islington transfer?
Fares start from £187 one way in the E-Class, £273 in the S-Class and £277 in the V-Class, fixed and agreed before you travel, the same in both directions.
Do you cover Islington to Stansted Airport transfers too?
Yes – every booking runs in both directions at the same fixed price, whether you’re travelling out to Islington or making the Islington to Stansted Airport run afterwards.
Why does this route take the A10 instead of the M11?
Islington sits closest to the A10 corridor of any district MILE5 covers, which is the first genuinely inner-London stretch of that approach – most other London routes on this site instead run the M11 and North Circular.
How long does the drive from Stansted Airport to Islington take?
Around 55 to 75 minutes in normal traffic, running the A10 corridor south.
Is the Stansted Express cheaper than a chauffeur to Islington?
On price alone for one person, yes. It’s about 48 minutes to Liverpool Street, but Islington still needs a further Tube change, which adds time and doesn’t help with luggage or a group.
Can you collect from a theatre or venue on Upper Street late in the evening?
Yes – late pickups from the Almeida, Sadler’s Wells or anywhere along Upper Street are a regular booking pattern, and every fare is fixed and agreed before you travel regardless of the time.
What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?
Nothing changes on your end. Every Islington booking is flight-tracked, so a delayed landing shifts your driver’s pickup time automatically rather than costing you the fare or the booking.
Can I book a larger vehicle for a family or group?
Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with matching luggage space, and at £277 for the whole vehicle that works out at £40 a head for a full group.
