Stansted Airport to Clapham Transfer – Fixed Price, and Which Clapham Do You Mean

A Stansted Airport to Clapham transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 60 to 80 minutes door to door and from £205 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, Clapham to Stansted Airport, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse. “Clapham” actually covers three genuinely different places, and getting the right one matters for a driver working out the last few streets of the route.

This journey is one of the routes on our Stansted airport chauffeur page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

Clapham sits close to 42 miles south-west of Stansted Airport – see the complete Stansted to London page for every other district MILE5 covers. The route runs the M11 before crossing central London, and in normal traffic that’s around 60 to 80 minutes.

All prices are fixed and all-inclusive, agreed before you travel, in both directions. Final quote depends on exact pickup or drop-off address, vehicle choice and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.

Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and so is the ULEZ charge and the Congestion Charge where the journey into Clapham crosses into the zone – the airport itself sits outside both, the charges belong to the journey, not the pickup. Split seven ways, £305 works out at £44 a head for the whole run – one car for a group heading to the same address rather than several separate fares.

The Common and the Three Claphams

Clapham Common is the anchor – one of south London’s largest open green spaces, ringed by bars and restaurants that get genuinely busy on a warm evening. But the name “Clapham” itself covers three distinct areas that a booking address should specify: Clapham Old Town, the older northern part near the common with the area’s original high street feel; Clapham High Street, the main strip running south with most of the bars and restaurants; and Clapham Junction, which is actually a different district again, built around one of the busiest railway stations in the country and closer to Battersea than to the common. Telling MILE5 which of the three you mean saves real time on the final approach.

MILE5 covers Clapham alongside the wider SW River Corridor cluster, including the Stansted to Fulham page, our Wandsworth transfer, the Stansted to Battersea page and the Stansted to Vauxhall page.

Evenings Around the Common

On a warm evening, the roads around the common – and the bars along the High Street – see a genuine spike in foot traffic and short-stay parking that can slow the last stretch of a pickup or drop-off. It’s not a formal closure like a matchday, just a busy residential area doing what it does on a Friday night. MILE5 drivers know to allow a little extra time for the final approach rather than treat every Clapham booking as identical to a quiet Tuesday morning run.

Clapham Chauffeur vs the Stansted Express vs a Hire Car

For one person travelling in daylight hours, the honest comparison starts with the train, not the car.

OptionJourney timeWorth knowing
MILE5 chauffeur60-80minDoor to door, fixed price, confirms which of the three Claphams before the driver sets off
Stansted Express + Underground48min to Liverpool St + a changeWins on price for one person, but Clapham needs a further Underground leg south – workable solo, less so with luggage or a group
Hire car60-80minSimilar drive time, but weekend parking around the common and the High Street is genuinely difficult, on top of the ULEZ and Congestion Charge – both already built into MILE5’s fixed price

For a group heading to the same address, the better comparison is a pre-booked chauffeur against a minicab booked at short notice – see MILE5’s comparison of Uber against Bolt in London.

What Running This Route Has Taught Us

The Stansted Express is honestly the right call for one person catching a daytime train into Liverpool Street – it’s faster and it’s cheaper, and Clapham is only a short further hop by Underground from there. Where the car earns its keep is at the edges: the first trains out of London don’t leave until 05:30, or 06:00 Tuesday to Thursday, which misses check-in for the earliest departure wave out of Stansted, and the last train back from the airport leaves at 00:30, so a delayed late arrival lands into no train at all. That gap, in both directions, is where a pre-booked fixed-price car earns its keep over a train-and-Underground combination – and a driver who already knows which of the three Claphams you mean saves a wrong turn on the final stretch.

Your Driver at Stansted Airport

Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5‘s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

Stansted to Clapham Chauffeur – Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Stansted Airport to Clapham transfer?

Fares start from £205 one way in the E-Class, £299 in the S-Class and £305 in the V-Class, fixed and agreed before you travel, the same in both directions.

Do you cover Clapham to Stansted Airport transfers too?

Yes – every booking runs in both directions at the same fixed price, whether you’re travelling out to Clapham or making the Clapham to Stansted Airport run afterwards.

Which Clapham does this page cover?

All three – Clapham Old Town, Clapham High Street and Clapham Junction are genuinely different areas. Tell MILE5 which one and the driver will plan the final approach accordingly.

How long does the drive from Stansted Airport to Clapham take?

Around 60 to 80 minutes in normal traffic, running the M11 before crossing central London – a little longer on a busy weekend evening around the common.

Is the Stansted Express cheaper than a chauffeur to Clapham?

On price alone for one person, yes. It’s about 48 minutes to Liverpool Street, but Clapham needs a further Underground change from there, which doesn’t help with luggage or a group.

Is Clapham Junction the same as Clapham Common?

No – Clapham Junction is a separate area built around the railway station, closer to Battersea than to the common. Tell MILE5 which address you mean so the driver plans the right route.

What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. Every Clapham booking is flight-tracked, so a delayed landing shifts your driver’s pickup time automatically rather than costing you the fare or the booking.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a group heading to the same address?

Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with matching luggage space, and at £305 for the whole vehicle that works out at £44 a head for a full group.
