Stansted Airport to Cambridge Transfer – Fixed Price, Direct Up the M11

A Stansted Airport to Cambridge transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 40 to 55 minutes up the M11 door to door and from £173 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, Cambridge to Stansted, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse.

This journey is one of the routes on our Stansted airport transfers page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

Cambridge sits 27.8 miles north of Stansted Airport, almost the whole way up the M11 from junction 8. In light traffic that’s around 40 minutes; through the roadworks and rush-hour queuing that build up near the Junction 11 interchange on the edge of the city, allow closer to 55. It’s the shortest run on the Stansted long-distance transfers hub, which also covers Essex, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Norfolk, and it’s the one regional destination on that whole network with a genuinely fast, genuinely direct rail alternative worth naming honestly rather than talking around.

Direct trains run from Stansted Airport station to Cambridge in around half an hour, with Greater Anglia and CrossCountry between them running close to fifty services a day – the fastest link on the entire regional network, and MILE5 says so plainly rather than pretending otherwise. What the train doesn’t do is put you outside your college gate, your conference venue or your front door with two suitcases and a delayed flight already behind you; a chauffeur does, at a fixed price agreed before you fly. MILE5 is a TfL-licensed operator, licence 009161, with 13 years and 50,000 completed transfers behind it and a five-star Google rating from real passengers – read what our clients say.

All prices are fixed and all-inclusive, agreed before you travel, in both directions. Final quote depends on exact pickup or drop-off address, vehicle choice and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.

Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and because Cambridge sits well outside Greater London there’s no ULEZ or Congestion Charge to think about on this route either way. Split seven ways in the V-Class, £256 works out under £37 a head for the whole run up the M11 – cheaper, per person, than seven separate rail fares booked with a change and a pile of luggage between them.

Where MILE5 Picks Up and Drops Off in Cambridge

Cambridge’s centre is compact and largely pedestrianised, so most college and hotel addresses mean a drop a short walk from the door rather than at it – your driver will know the nearest point a car can actually reach on King’s Parade, Trinity Street or Sidney Street. Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus on the southern edge of the city, and the business parks and research campuses further out on the ring road, are more straightforward: full vehicle access, no pedestrian zone to work around. Cambridge railway station itself sits a good 25-minute walk or a short taxi ride from the historic centre, which is one more reason a chauffeur booked door to door beats a train ticket that still leaves a leg to finish.

MILE5 runs the same M11 corridor to the neighbouring towns either side of Cambridge too – the Bishop’s Stortford route page covers the shortest fare on the whole regional network, and the Harlow route page covers the Essex town just south, both at their own fixed price.

What Visitors Come to Cambridge For

Cambridge is a working university city built around 31 independent colleges, not a single campus, and that collegiate structure is the whole point of a visit: King’s College Chapel, Trinity’s Great Court and St John’s Bridge of Sighs are working buildings with their own porters, their own gates and their own visiting hours, not exhibits. The Backs, the run of college gardens and lawns along the River Cam behind King’s, Trinity and St John’s, is best seen the way generations of students have seen it, from a flat-bottomed punt poled along the water, and punting operators line the river at Silver Street and Magdalene Bridge through most of the year. The university’s academic year runs in three eight-week terms – Michaelmas from October, Lent from January, Easter from April – and the city’s rhythm moves with them: term-time streets fill with bicycles and gowns, and the vacations empty the colleges out almost entirely. May Week, despite the name, lands in June after exams finish, and the graduation ceremonies and May Balls that follow bring some of the heaviest traffic of the academic year onto the M11 corridor.

Cambridge Chauffeur vs the Train vs a Hire Car

OptionJourney timeWorth knowing
MILE5 chauffeur40-55 minDoor to door, fixed price, flight-tracked, no change
Direct trainAround 30 minFastest link, but station is a walk from the centre
Hire car40-55 minDesk time, excess, and parking to find in a pedestrianised city

On price alone, the train wins outright, and MILE5 would rather say that upfront than argue against it. What a fixed-price chauffeur buys instead is certainty and one less change to manage with luggage – useful on any Cambridge trip, and particularly useful for families dropping off a first-year student at the start of Michaelmas Term with a car boot’s worth of belongings; MILE5’s guide to international student airport transfers covers that specific move in more detail. For anyone weighing a hire car instead of either option, MILE5’s comparison of a chauffeur transfer against renting a car runs the actual costs side by side.

What Running This Route Has Taught Us

The clearest pattern on the Cambridge run is the early-wave gap. The first direct trains most days don’t leave Stansted Airport until around 05:30 to 06:00, Tuesday to Thursday, which is too late for the earliest check-in windows on some long-haul departures, and the last train back from Cambridge is gone by half past midnight – a chauffeur is booked around your flight, not a timetable, so neither gap matters. The second pattern is seasonal: Newmarket race days a few miles east, the Duxford Airshow weekends, and the university’s own graduation congestion in June all push M11 journey times well outside the normal range on their specific dates, and MILE5’s drivers plan around those dates rather than treating every Tuesday on the M11 the same.

Your Driver at Stansted Airport

Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5’s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.

Stansted to Cambridge Chauffeur – Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Stansted Airport to Cambridge transfer?

Fares start from £173 one way in the E-Class, £253 in the S-Class and £256 in the V-Class, fixed and agreed before you travel, the same in both directions.

Do you cover Cambridge to Stansted Airport transfers too?

Yes – every booking runs in both directions at the same fixed price, whether you’re travelling out to catch a flight or being collected from Cambridge on arrival.

How long does the drive from Stansted Airport to Cambridge take?

Around 40 minutes in light traffic, up to about 55 minutes when the M11 or the roads into the city are busy. It’s the shortest journey time of any regional route MILE5 runs from Stansted.

Is the train cheaper than a chauffeur transfer to Cambridge?

Yes, on price the direct train wins – it’s fast and frequent. A chauffeur costs more but replaces the walk from the station, the platform changes with luggage, and the timetable itself with one fixed-price journey straight to your door.

What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. Every Cambridge booking is flight-tracked, so a delayed landing shifts your driver’s pickup time automatically rather than costing you the fare or the booking.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a group travelling to Cambridge?

Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with matching luggage space, and at £256 for the whole vehicle that works out under £37 a head for a full group, regularly cheaper than the same party buying individual rail tickets.

Where does my driver meet me at Stansted Airport?

Inside the arrivals hall, holding a name board, for every Cambridge booking. Stansted has a single terminal, so there’s no terminal number or side to specify.

Do you serve specific Cambridge college and hotel addresses?

Yes – drivers know where a car can and can’t reach in the pedestrianised centre, and will drop as close to a college gate, hotel entrance or conference venue as the street allows.
