Stansted Airport to Braintree Transfer – Fixed Price, Straight Down the A120
A Stansted Airport to Braintree transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 25 to 35 minutes door to door and from £124 one way, running in both directions 24/7. The return leg, Braintree to Stansted, is the same fixed fare and the same route in reverse.

Braintree sits 15 miles south-east of Stansted Airport on Stansted Airport’s regional and national routes, and it’s one of the few destinations on the whole network reached without touching a motorway at all – the A120 runs close to direct from the airport roundabout straight into the town, no M11, no M25. In clear traffic that’s around 25 to 35 minutes, mostly dual carriageway with a couple of roundabout-controlled stretches near the Braintree end.
There’s no useful direct train between Stansted Airport and Braintree – the two sit on separate branches of the rail network entirely, so the journey needs at least one change, usually at Witham or via Liverpool Street, and can run anywhere from around 2 hours up to 3 hours 30 minutes depending on the connection. For a 15-mile trip that’s a poor exchange, and it’s where the fixed-price chauffeur case is clearest: a direct 25 to 35 minute run against a rail journey that can take six times as long. MILE5 is a TfL-licensed operator, licence 009161, with 13 years and 50,000 completed transfers behind it and a five-star Google rating from real passengers – read what our clients say.

Every fare includes in-terminal meet-and-greet inside the Stansted arrivals hall, flight tracking so a delayed landing doesn’t cost you the booking, and 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. The £10 Express Set Down charge at the terminal is absorbed in the price shown, and there’s no ULEZ or Congestion Charge to think about on this route either way. Split seven ways in the V-Class, £155 works out under £23 a head for the whole run – useful arithmetic for a group heading to the shops with cases to fill on the way back.
Where MILE5 Picks Up and Drops Off in Braintree
Braintree grew rich on wool in the fourteenth century and then on silk from the eighteenth, when Huguenot weavers and the Courtauld family built an industry here that shaped the whole town – the fine Georgian and Victorian buildings around the town centre, and the Braintree District Museum that documents that history, are the direct legacy of it. Today the reason most MILE5 passengers are heading to Braintree is different: Braintree Village, the outlet shopping destination on the edge of town, where around 200,000 square feet of retail space is arranged as an open-air village of brick, pitched-roof stores. Reiss, Ralph Lauren, Coach, Belstaff, Kate Spade New York and Adidas all have outposts there, alongside Bills for anyone stopping for food between stores.
Braintree is part of MILE5’s Essex A120 & A12 cluster from Stansted, alongside our Colchester page further along the same road and our Chelmsford transfer service to the south, each at its own fixed price.
What Visitors Come to Braintree For
Braintree Village is the single biggest reason for a MILE5 booking to this address – it draws shoppers from well beyond Essex, and a fair number of passengers book the V-Class specifically for the boot space on the way home. Beyond the outlet, Cressing Temple, a few miles south-west, holds the largest surviving medieval barns of their kind in Europe, built by the Knights Templar and still standing on their original site. Marks Hall Estate, with its arboretum and walled garden, gives visitors a quieter half-day out, and Hedingham Castle – one of the best-preserved Norman keeps in England, complete with jousting displays on selected dates – sits a short drive north. Bocking, the historic village that has effectively merged into Braintree’s northern edge, keeps its own church and weaving-era streets worth a look if there’s time before a flight.
Braintree Chauffeur vs the Train vs a Hire Car
| Option | Journey time | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| MILE5 chauffeur | 25-35 min | Door to door, fixed price, flight-tracked, one fare per group |
| Train (1-2 changes) | Roughly 2h-3h30m | No useful direct link between the two, priced per passenger |
| Hire car | 25-35 min | Similar drive time, plus desk time, excess and parking to arrange at Braintree Village |
Braintree is one of the clearest chauffeur-value cases on MILE5’s whole beyond-London list – a short, motorway-free run against a rail option that genuinely doesn’t work for this journey. For anyone weighing a pre-booked fixed fare against renting a car for the trip instead, MILE5’s guide to why hiring a chauffeur beats renting a car covers the excess, the fuel, and the parking that a fixed-price transfer avoids.
What Running This Route Has Taught Us
The A120 itself is dual carriageway for most of the run out of Stansted, but it narrows to single carriageway on the final stretch into Braintree, and that section can back up at peak times, particularly on Saturdays when Braintree Village is busiest. The one-way system around the town centre and the Village’s own access roads are both worth building into the pickup window on a shopping trip, especially if the drop-off is timed around a specific store’s closing hours – which is why MILE5 always confirms the exact pickup or drop-off point, whether that’s the Village itself or an address in town, before a booking is locked in.
Your Driver at Stansted Airport
Stansted has one terminal building – there’s no North or South side to specify, unlike Gatwick. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall holding a name board, tracking your flight so a delay shifts the pickup time rather than costing you the booking. The Express Set Down area sits right next to the terminal, and the £10 charge there is already built into the fixed price above. Check the arrivals board and MILE5’s own Stansted Airport guide for terminal-specific detail on the day.
