London City Airport to Stratford Chauffeur – Meet & Greet, Fixed Price

A London City Airport to Stratford transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 20 to 30 minutes door to door and from £71 one way, running in both directions 24 hours a day.

This journey is one of the routes on our London City chauffeur service page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

MILE5 runs the route to Stratford and the Stratford to London City Airport leg back at the same fixed price, with a driver waiting inside the terminal whichever way you’re travelling.

Stratford sits 4.5 miles from London City Airport, and it’s worth saying plainly: this is the worst distance-to-time ratio on our whole central London list. The direct-line distance is short, but the road route round via the A11 and A12 corridor means 20 to 30 minutes is the honest range rather than the 10 to 15 minutes the mileage alone would suggest. The DLR covers the same ground in around 15 minutes if you’re travelling light, with a station at the terminal and direct trains to Stratford on the Stratford International service.

MILE5 is TfL Licensed (No. 009161), has run London airport transfers for 15+ years and carries a 5-star Google rating from our clients (see what our clients say).

Every Stratford transfer includes meet-and-greet inside London City’s single arrivals hall, flight tracking from the moment you land, 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time, the airport’s own £8 drop-off charge absorbed into the fare, and full luggage handling to the door. Child seats are available on request at an extra charge, and the car runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Where we go in Stratford

Stratford means two things to most passengers: Westfield Stratford City, one of the largest shopping centres in Europe with over 200 shops and a full entertainment floor, and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park next door, built for the 2012 Games and now home to the London Stadium, the London Aquatics Centre and the ArcelorMittal Orbit observation tower. Drivers cover both directly – the Westfield drop-off and collection points, the Stadium’s event entrances on a match or concert day, and the quieter East Village and Stratford City residential streets around the station.

The honest hook on this route is the mileage itself. At 4.5 miles it looks like the shortest possible hop, but it carries the longest journey time relative to distance of anything we run from London City – road access into Stratford from the airport side means a genuine 20 to 30 minutes rather than the sub-15 the map suggests, and event traffic around the Stadium adds more again.

From Olympic host to permanent fixture

The London Stadium opened in 2011 and hosted the athletics and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics before a lengthy conversion into its current form; it has been the home ground of West Ham United since 2016 and also stages major concerts and athletics meetings, with a capacity of over 62,000 for football and up to 80,000 for the biggest concerts. The wider Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was renamed in 2012 in honour of the late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and now spans four east London boroughs, with 6.5 kilometres of waterways and woodland alongside the sporting venues. Westfield Stratford City opened just ahead of the Games in 2011 and remains one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, drawing in the tens of millions of visits a year that make Stratford one of the busiest transport interchanges outside central London.

DLR, tube or MILE5: the honest comparison

For a Stratford station or Westfield drop-off, the DLR genuinely competes: a station at the airport, roughly 15 minutes to Stratford, and a change onto the Central, Jubilee or Elizabeth line if you need to go further. It costs a few pounds against a fixed £71 car. Where the car wins is exactly where Stratford’s own transport gets crowded – matchdays and concert nights push Stratford station to some of its busiest points in London, and a car collects from a fixed point on the Stadium or Westfield side rather than joining that crush. If you’re travelling light on an ordinary day, the DLR and tube combination is a fair way to save the fare.

What this route has taught us

The single most useful thing to know about this route is the one this page leads with: don’t judge the journey by the map. 4.5 miles reads short, but the actual road time regularly runs to half an hour, and event days at the Stadium or a big weekend at Westfield add further on top. Building a genuine buffer into an early meeting or a flight connection matters more here than on any of the shorter, faster Docklands routes nearby. London City’s own Saturday 1pm closure is also worth checking if a Stratford trip is built around a weekend flight.

Groups heading to a match or a concert at the London Stadium travel well in the V-Class – seven seats and space for flags, scarves and away-day bags, one booking instead of splitting across two cars on an already-busy event night.

Meeting you at London City Airport

London City has a single arrivals hall, so there’s no terminal to guess at – your driver waits inside with a name board as you come through. Check the arrivals board for your flight status; if you land early or late, flight tracking means the car adjusts automatically and the 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time covers a slow bag or a long queue at passport control. From there it’s a short walk to the car, already loaded, straight out towards Stratford.

Flying the other way? The DLR puts Stratford 17 minutes from the terminal, but the timing that matters is at the airport end: see how early to arrive at London City and which hours the terminal is busiest.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a London City Airport to Stratford transfer?

From £71 in the E-Class, £106 in the S-Class or £97 in the V-Class, fixed and shown in full in the table above. The price covers the whole car, not a per-person fare, and is the same in both directions.

How much is a Stratford to London City Airport transfer?

The same fixed price as the airport-bound leg – £71 E-Class, £106 S-Class, £97 V-Class – booked the same way, with your driver tracking your return flight if you’re heading onward from London City.

Is the DLR or tube cheaper than a MILE5 transfer to Stratford?

Yes, on pure fare – a DLR journey to Stratford costs a few pounds against a fixed £71 car. On an ordinary day and travelling light it’s a fair way to save the fare; on a matchday or a big Westfield weekend, Stratford station gets genuinely crowded and a car collecting from a fixed point is the easier option.

What happens if my flight to London City is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. We track your flight and adjust the pickup time automatically, and the 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time starts from actual touchdown, not the scheduled time – so a late landing doesn’t cost you anything extra.

Can I book a larger vehicle for a group heading to a match or concert?

Yes – the V-Class seats up to seven with luggage, useful for a group heading to the London Stadium together on an event night, one booking instead of splitting across two cars.

Why does this route take longer than the mileage suggests?

The direct-line distance is short at 4.5 miles, but the road route in from London City runs via the A11/A12 corridor rather than a straight line, so 20 to 30 minutes is the realistic range rather than the 10 to 15 minutes the distance alone implies – it’s the least favourable distance-to-time ratio on our central London list, and we’d rather say so than promise a time we can’t consistently hit.

Stratford sits at the heart of the same corridor as three other London City routes: our route to Canary Wharf, a car to the O2, and the drive to Greenwich all leave from the same terminal kerb, priced the same fair way. If your day includes a stop further out along the A13, Romford from London City covers the eastern edge of that corridor too.
