London City Airport to Canary Wharf Chauffeur – Meet & Greet, Fixed Price

A London City Airport to Canary Wharf transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 10 to 20 minutes door to door and from £70 one way, running in both directions 24 hours a day.

This journey is one of the routes on our London City chauffeur service page, which covers every destination we drive from the airport with the same Mercedes fleet, the same met-at-arrivals pickup and the same fixed-price promise.

MILE5 runs the route to Canary Wharf and the Canary Wharf to London City Airport leg back at the same fixed price, with a driver waiting inside the terminal whichever way you’re travelling.

Canary Wharf sits 4.3 miles from London City Airport, the shortest run on our central London list, and a genuinely quick one: allow 10 to 20 minutes depending on the time of day, longer if the Blackwall Tunnel approach or the A1261 is running slow. The DLR is a real option too, with a station attached to the terminal and Canary Wharf a straight run down the line – a fair alternative if you’re travelling light with time to spare.

MILE5 is TfL Licensed (No. 009161), has run London airport transfers for 13+ years and carries a 5-star Google rating from our clients (see what our clients say).

Every Canary Wharf transfer includes meet-and-greet inside London City’s single arrivals hall, flight tracking from the moment you land, 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time, the airport’s own £8 drop-off charge absorbed into the fare, and full luggage handling to the door. Child seats are free on request, and the car runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Where we go in Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf is the destination itself, not a stop on the way to somewhere else – a financial estate built on reclaimed dock land, home to One Canada Square (235 metres, the second-tallest building in the UK) and the newer towers around it: 8 Canada Square, 25 Canada Square, 1 Churchill Place. Drivers cover every entrance on the estate: Canada Square itself, Churchill Place, Bank Street, Cabot Square and the residential blocks along Marsh Wall and Millharbour.

At 4.3 miles this is the shortest of our central London routes from London City – closer than Greenwich, closer than the O2, and a genuine advantage if your day starts with an early landing and a morning meeting. ExCeL London sits a little further along the Royal Docks; it’s a real neighbour to the airport but the hop falls under our three-mile minimum, so we don’t run it as a dedicated transfer – ask your driver to route past ExCeL if it’s a same-day stop on the way into Canary Wharf.

From dockyard to financial capital

Canary Wharf takes its name from a berth built for fruit ships from the Canary Islands, part of the West India Docks that once handled a large share of London’s import trade. The docks closed in the early 1980s and sat derelict for most of the decade before Olympia & York began building the first tower in 1988. One Canada Square opened in 1991 and held the title of the UK’s tallest building for over twenty years, until The Shard overtook it in 2012. The estate now runs on its own postcode, E14, with the Jubilee line, the DLR and the Elizabeth line all meeting under Canada Square – a level of transport density most City firms would still envy.

DLR or MILE5: the honest comparison

The DLR genuinely wins on price for this route – a single fare from London City to Canary Wharf costs a few pounds and takes under fifteen minutes once you’re on the platform. Where a car earns its fare is everything either side of that: no walk from the terminal with cases, no seat-hunting on a train that can run standing-room only in the morning peak, and a driver who already knows which Canary Wharf entrance you need. If you’re travelling with a case and a laptop bag on an early flight, the car is the easier version of the same journey. If you’re travelling light and the platform is quiet, the DLR is a fair way to save the fare.

What this route has taught us

The Canary Wharf run rewards knowing the building, not just the postcode. HSBC and Citigroup guests are usually dropped at the Canada Square side; Barclays and Morgan Stanley guests further round at Churchill Place and Bank Street – tell us which building when you book and the driver goes straight there rather than circling the one-way system. Mornings between 7 and 9 get busy on the approach roads as the estate fills up, so an early landing with a tight first meeting is worth building in a few extra minutes. London City’s own Saturday afternoon closure (the airport shuts at 1pm) also means a Saturday Canary Wharf pickup only works for a morning flight – worth checking before you book a weekend trip.

Meeting you at London City Airport

London City has a single arrivals hall, so there’s no terminal to guess at – your driver waits inside with a name board as you come through. Check the arrivals board for your flight status; if you land early or late, flight tracking means the car adjusts automatically and the 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time covers a slow bag or a long queue at passport control. From there it’s a short walk to the car, already loaded, straight out towards Canary Wharf.

On the way out, the question is usually what a car costs against the alternatives. We break that down in Uber from London City Airport, and the arrival timing in how early to arrive at London City.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a London City Airport to Canary Wharf transfer?

From £70 in the E-Class, £106 in the S-Class or £97 in the V-Class, fixed and shown in full in the table above. The price covers the whole car, not a per-person fare, and is the same in both directions.

How much is a Canary Wharf to London City Airport transfer?

The same fixed price as the airport-bound leg – £70 E-Class, £106 S-Class, £97 V-Class – booked the same way, with your driver tracking your return flight if you’re heading onward from London City.

Is it cheaper to take the DLR to Canary Wharf?

Yes, on pure fare – the DLR costs a few pounds against a fixed £70 car. It isn’t door to door, though: you’re on your feet with luggage from the terminal to the platform and off again at Canary Wharf, with an interchange at Poplar most times of day. If you’re travelling with cases or on a tight schedule, the car earns the difference.

What happens if my flight to London City is delayed?

Nothing changes on your end. We track your flight and adjust the pickup time automatically, and the 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time starts from actual touchdown, not the scheduled time – so a late landing doesn’t cost you anything extra.

Can I book a larger vehicle for extra luggage or a group?

Yes – alongside the E-Class and S-Class saloons we run a V-Class for up to seven with luggage, useful if you’re travelling as a small team into the same Canary Wharf building. Select it at booking and the fixed price for that vehicle is shown before you confirm.

Do you cover specific Canary Wharf buildings like One Canada Square or HSBC?

Yes. Tell us the building when you book – One Canada Square, 8 Canada Square (HSBC), Churchill Place (Barclays), Bank Street (JP Morgan) or any of the residential towers – and the driver goes straight to that entrance rather than the general estate.

Canary Wharf sits at the heart of the same corridor as three other London City routes: the run to the O2, Greenwich transfer prices, and a private car to Stratford all leave from the same terminal kerb, priced the same fair way. If your day includes a stop further out along the A13, our route to Romford covers the eastern edge of that corridor too.

Landing guests staying in the Docklands towers can also arrange pick-ups at Canary Riverside Plaza or transfers to the Novotel Canary Wharf, both a few minutes further into the estate.
