See your fixed price

The 12-mile proximity surprises almost every visitor who books a Heathrow to Windsor transfer for the first time. Windsor Castle, the Long Walk, Eton College, and 4,800 acres of Windsor Great Park all sit within 20-30 minutes of your arrival terminal, at one of the lowest prices on our route list. Whether you are spending time in Windsor before or after an international flight, or routing through the UK with Windsor as your base, this is the most straightforwardly logical private transfer we operate.

The train between Heathrow and Windsor takes two changes: the Elizabeth line to Hayes & Harlington, a westbound train to Slough, then the Great Western Railway branch line to Windsor and Eton Central, around an hour door to door with the connection waits. Our Heathrow to Windsor transfer is a direct run of about 8 to 10 miles west on the M4, then south on the B470 through Datchet, delivering you to Windsor town centre or your hotel in 20-30 minutes off-peak. TfL Licensed No. 009161, 5-star Google rating, 50,000+ transfers completed from our base two minutes from the airport.

No Congestion Charge applies on this route, as Windsor sits outside the London Congestion Zone. For the wider service see our Heathrow chauffeur service, or compare the full range on our Heathrow transfer prices page.

The Proximity Factor – Why Windsor Works Differently

Windsor’s position relative to Heathrow is the defining fact of this route and worth spelling out clearly.

Windsor is about 8 miles from Heathrow Terminal 5. For context, the Dorchester on Park Lane is about 15 miles, the Savoy about 17 miles, and Cambridge about 75 miles. Windsor sits closer to your arrival gate than most of the central London hotels we serve, and from £90 it is priced accordingly. If you are arriving internationally and spending time in Windsor, for the Castle, Royal Ascot, Eton, or simply as a quieter base near the airport, this is one of the most efficient journeys in our network, with a realistic 20-30 minutes from wheels-down to Windsor town centre in clear traffic.

The train requires changes at Hayes & Harlington and Slough and takes longer than driving. Heathrow’s rail connections, the Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly Line, do not run directly to Windsor; you take the Elizabeth Line to Hayes & Harlington, change for a westbound train to Slough, then take the Great Western branch line shuttle to Windsor and Eton Central. Add the connection wait, the platform walk, and a ten-minute walk or short taxi from Windsor Central station to your hotel, and the train is 45-60 minutes door to door against 20-30 minutes for the transfer. The train does not win on time, convenience, or luggage practicality; it only wins on cost for a solo traveller with a carry-on.

Windsor also works as a transit base, an option many long-haul passengers overlook. Travellers with multi-day Heathrow connections often stay in central London out of habit when Windsor offers quieter streets, the Great Park on the doorstep, better-value accommodation, and a transfer that is 20 minutes each way, without sacrificing London access, since Windsor to Paddington by train is around 40 minutes with a change at Slough. And the return case is even stronger: Windsor to Heathrow for an early flight is arguably the most reliable early-morning run we operate, with the M4 eastbound empty at 4-5am, Windsor’s streets quiet, and wheels-up 25 minutes from your front door, no traffic variables, no London detour, no connection anxiety.

What Every Windsor Transfer Includes

Windsor attracts a varied guest mix: international tourists visiting the Castle, families at Legoland, Ascot racegoers, Eton parents, and corporate guests at nearby estate venues. Here is what every Heathrow to Windsor transfer delivers in practice.

Local knowledge comes first. Windsor’s one-way system around the Castle, the High Street, and Peascod Street disorients drivers using GPS, and we know the correct approach for every hotel and address in Windsor town, Eton across the bridge, and the surrounding Great Park, so your transfer arrives at the right entrance on the first pass. Flight tracking runs from your departure airport, with North American, Australian, and Asian long-haul arrivals tracked through any connecting hubs and the transfer adjusting automatically for delays, with 60 minutes complimentary waiting from actual wheels-down rather than the scheduled arrival time. Child seats are available at an extra charge, which matters at family destinations like Legoland and the Castle, with infant carriers, forward-facing seats, and boosters fitted before you arrive; specify ages when booking, and note the V-Class from £123 carries up to seven passengers with full luggage for a family arriving together.

During Royal Ascot in June we run an event-aware service, factoring race traffic around the A332 and B3022 corridors near Ascot Racecourse five miles southwest of Windsor and routing accordingly, having covered Ascot week since 2011. Every charge is included, with the £7 Heathrow drop-off fee and ULEZ absorbed and no Congestion Charge on this route, so from £90 for the E-Class the price you see at booking is exactly what you pay. And driver details arrive 24 hours ahead, with name, photo, and a direct WhatsApp number, which for a Windsor Great Park estate venue or a Legoland gate drop-off avoids any last-mile confusion.

Windsor’s Hotels, Venues and Destinations – Where We Deliver

Windsor and its surrounding area covers more ground than the town centre suggests. Your Heathrow to Windsor transfer can deliver to any of these.

In the town centre and around the Castle, the Castle Hotel on High Street is the closest hotel to the Castle’s main entrance, with direct vehicle access from the High Street approach that avoids the pedestrian-priority zone around Castle Hill; the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel on Thames Street is a riverfront hotel at the Windsor end of Windsor Bridge approached via Thames Street from the east, and the Macdonald Windsor Hotel on High Street has direct central access. The Windsor Castle visitor entrance on Castle Hill takes vehicle drop-off on Castle Hill or St Alban’s Street, with pedestrian-zone restrictions near the main gate meaning we use the nearest permitted stop. Eton sits directly across the Thames from Windsor, reached on foot via Windsor Bridge and by car via Royal Windsor Way and Slough Road, with School Lane, Eton High Street, and the college approaches all accessible; a significant proportion of Eton’s 1,300 pupils are international, so the transfer to Eton is one of the most-travelled school-visit routes we handle.

Legoland sits two miles southwest of the town centre on Winkfield Road (B3022), with the main car park entrance clearly signed and reachable without the town-centre one-way system; a transfer direct to the Legoland gate is 25-35 minutes, and the V-Class handles family luggage plus everything for a theme-park day. Around the Great Park, Coworth Park (Dorchester Collection) on Blacknest Road, Ascot is a 5-star country-house hotel and spa three miles from town, approached via the A329 from Windsor or the B383 from Ascot, with significant international clientele arriving via Heathrow; Oakley Court on Windsor Road, Water Oakley is a Victorian gothic mansion on the Thames between Windsor and Maidenhead, approached directly via the A308; and the Savill Garden and Valley Gardens within the Great Park are reached via Wick Road or Savill Road, requiring specific Great Park entrance knowledge. Ascot Racecourse, home of Royal Ascot, is five miles southwest via the A332, and we deliver to all entrances, from the Members’ and Royal Enclosures to the general car parks, with specific gate knowledge for each and careful routing during race week.

What We’ve Learned Running This Route

Windsor Castle is busiest between 10am and 2pm, and your transfer timing can change that entirely. The world’s largest occupied castle, continuously in royal use since the 11th century, sees its heaviest numbers in the mid-morning to early-afternoon window when coach tours arrive; book an early-morning flight, take the transfer straight to the Castle for its 10am opening, and you are at the State Rooms before the coaches, with a significant difference in queuing and crowd density between 10am and 11:30am. Pre-book entry online regardless, as timed slots are increasingly required.

Royal Ascot week needs a three-week advance booking for your transfer and around six months for hospitality. Royal Ascot, five days in June including the Royal Procession down the course each afternoon, draws around 300,000 attendees across the week, with strict dress codes at the gate and road management around Ascot that affects every approach from Windsor and Heathrow; transfer availability is high but not unlimited, so book when you book your race-day tickets or hotel rather than as an afterthought, while hospitality packages and Royal Enclosure tickets for the following year open in late autumn. The Long Walk, meanwhile, is one of England’s great free experiences that almost no international visitor plans for specifically: a 2.65-mile dead-straight avenue from the Castle’s George IV Gate south to the Copper Horse statue of George III on Snow Hill, with the Castle framed at the far end on the return, entirely free and open, so after your transfer drops you, ask the concierge for the nearest Great Park entrance, likely ten minutes’ walk.

Eton parents should specify Eton, not Windsor, when booking, because the college is on the north side of Windsor Bridge, which has been closed to vehicles since 1970, so the car approach runs via Royal Windsor Way and Slough Road rather than through the town centre; we confirm the correct approach at booking. For Legoland, book the first entry slot of the day and use the transfer to arrive at opening: the park opens at 10am (9am on peak summer dates), the first hour is consistently the least crowded, and an early arrival, flight landing at 7-8am with bags and transfer done by 9am, puts you at the gate for 9:30-10am via a 25-35 minute run. book online.

Windsor – What International Visitors Come For

Windsor’s visitor profile is unusually international, with American, Canadian, Australian, and Japanese visitors making up a significant proportion of Castle arrivals, drawn by the royal connection and the Castle’s role in British ceremonial life. Here is what your Heathrow to Windsor transfer is delivering you to.

Windsor Castle is the world’s largest occupied castle, a royal residence since William the Conqueror built the first fortification here around 1070, giving more than 950 years of continuous royal occupancy; the current structure is predominantly 13th to 19th century, rebuilt and expanded by successive monarchs. Key visitor areas are the State Apartments, furnished as used for state occasions, St George’s Chapel, built between 1475 and 1528 and the burial place of eleven monarchs including Henry VIII and, since 2022, Queen Elizabeth II, and the Albert Memorial Chapel. It is a working royal residence, so the Royal Standard flies when the monarch is in residence and some areas close without notice for official events; always pre-book entry, with adult tickets from £32 and the Castle opening at 10am, Thursday to Monday.

Eton College was founded by Henry VI in 1440, making it more than 580 years old and one of the oldest schools in England, with twenty British Prime Ministers educated here; its 1,300 boarding pupils include a significant international proportion, particularly from the Middle East, Hong Kong, and the United States, so overseas parents arrive via Heathrow regularly. The college offers guided tours and open days, and the High Street leading to College Chapel, with the distinctive tailcoat uniform, creates a streetscape unlike anywhere else in England. Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse since 1711, runs five days in the third week of June, with the Royal Procession arriving by carriage down the straight each afternoon and a dress code, morning dress and top hat for the Royal Enclosure, that makes it as much social occasion as racing; international guests arriving via Heathrow for Ascot typically book Windsor accommodation six to twelve months ahead, as the town fills completely during race week. Legoland Windsor, finally, is consistently one of the UK’s most-visited theme parks, with over 55 rides, shows and attractions themed around Lego and a Miniland section of scale landmark recreations that is a genuine highlight at any age; open from mid-March to early November with seasonal events, it rewards pre-booked entry, and a transfer direct to the main entrance removes the stress of navigating the town centre before a full day with children.

The Heathrow to Windsor Route – 12 Miles, How We Drive It

This is one of our shortest regular transfer routes from Heathrow: simple, direct, and consistently reliable.

The primary route runs M4 westbound to Junction 5, then the B470 south through Datchet. From Heathrow we take the M4 westbound to Junction 5, then south through Datchet village and into Windsor via the B470, arriving from the east on the Thames Street approach. Off-peak this is 20-25 minutes; the M4 stretch is minimal, barely six miles from Junction 4b to Junction 6, and the Datchet approach avoids the town-centre one-way system.

Timing varies across the day. Before 7am it is 18-22 minutes with a clear M4 and an empty Datchet village. Between 7am and 9am on weekdays it is 25-35 minutes as the M4 westbound rush builds and Windsor town backs up. Between 9am and 4pm it is 22-30 minutes, the standard and very consistent window. Between 4pm and 7pm it is 28-40 minutes as the town centre gets busy and the M4 evening westbound builds. On Ascot race days in June, allow 35-50 minutes as both the A332 and B3022 are affected, and after 7pm it is back to 20-25 minutes. During busy Castle periods and weekend afternoons, when the High Street and Peascod Street area queues, we approach via the A308 from the east to bypass the worst of it for hotels on the eastern and northern sides, and for Legoland we approach via the B3022 from the north, bypassing the town entirely. Destination-specific approaches matter here: Windsor Castle via High Street or St Alban’s Street, Eton College via Slough Road to Eton High Street, Legoland via Winkfield Road, Coworth Park via the A332 to Blacknest Road, Oakley Court via the A308, each a different routing from the M4 exit, which is exactly the local knowledge that separates a MILE5 transfer from a driver following a generic GPS route to a Windsor postcode.

Heathrow to Windsor – Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Heathrow to Windsor transfer take?

20-35 minutes in normal conditions, one of our shortest regular routes at about 8 to 10 miles via the M4 and B470. Before 7am and after 7pm it is 18-25 minutes, and weekday daytime is 22-30 minutes. Peak periods (7-9am and 4-7pm on weekdays) and Ascot race days add 10-20 minutes. Windsor is closer to Heathrow than most central London hotels, so this is one of the most reliable timings in our network.

Is there a direct train from Heathrow to Windsor?

No direct train. You take the Elizabeth Line to Hayes & Harlington, change for a westbound train to Slough, then take the Great Western branch line shuttle to Windsor and Eton Central. Total door to door, including the connection wait, the walk between platforms, and a taxi or walk from Windsor Central station, is 45-60 minutes. Our Heathrow to Windsor transfer is 20-30 minutes terminal to hotel door with no changes.

Can you deliver directly to Windsor Castle, Legoland, and Eton College?

Yes to all three, and each requires a different approach. Windsor Castle: drop on Castle Hill or St Alban’s Street, with pedestrian-zone restrictions near the main gate. Legoland: direct to the Winkfield Road main entrance, bypassing the town centre entirely. Eton College: via Slough Road to Eton High Street, specifying the college gate on booking. Coworth Park and Oakley Court: estate-venue approaches via the A329 and A308 respectively. Specify your exact destination, not just “Windsor”, when booking.

How far in advance should I book for Royal Ascot?

Book your transfer as soon as you confirm your Ascot tickets and Windsor accommodation, typically three to six weeks ahead for the transfer itself. The road management around Ascot during race week (third week of June) affects the A332 and B3022 approach routes, and we factor in race-day traffic patterns. For Royal Enclosure attendance, the dress code (top hat and morning dress) is strictly enforced at the gate, and we can advise on logistics if needed.

Which vehicle suits a family or group?

The V-Class from £123 carries up to seven passengers with full luggage from any Heathrow terminal to the Windsor door. For context, the train from Heathrow to Windsor needs changes at Hayes & Harlington and Slough and leaves you at Windsor Central station, not your accommodation. For families with children and luggage, the V-Class frequently makes more sense than the maths initially suggests.

Can I book Windsor as a stopover between flights?

Yes. At 20-30 minutes each way it is genuinely accessible for a one or two-night stopover between long-haul flights. Windsor to Heathrow at 4-5am for an early departure is one of our smoothest runs of any day, with the M4 eastbound completely clear at that hour.

Do you cover Coworth Park and other Windsor area estate hotels?

Yes: Coworth Park (Dorchester Collection, Blacknest Road, Ascot), Oakley Court (Windsor Road, Water Oakley), and properties throughout the Windsor Great Park area. Estate-venue deliveries require specific approach routing that differs from the town centre, so specify the property name on booking and we confirm the correct approach and driveway entrance. Our corporate chauffeur service handles Coworth Park conference and retreat arrivals regularly.
