Heathrow to the Cotswolds | Fixed Price from £277, Direct to Your Village

The Cotswolds sit about 80 to 100 miles west of Heathrow, roughly an hour and a half to two hours by road depending on which village you are heading for. The complication is not the distance, it is the last twenty minutes: there is no station in most Cotswold villages, so every public transport route ends with a taxi you still have to find. This page compares the realistic ways of doing it and gives the fixed prices for a private transfer.

How do I get to the Cotswolds from Heathrow?

OptionTimeTypical costWorth knowing
Private chauffeur1.5 to 2 hoursFrom £277 per vehicleStraight to the village or hotel door, met inside arrivals, price fixed before you book
Train2.5 to 3.5 hoursRail fare plus a local taxiElizabeth line to Paddington, then GWR to Moreton-in-Marsh, Charlbury, Kemble or Cheltenham Spa. You still need a taxi from the station, and rural cabs need booking ahead
Hire car1.5 to 2 hoursRental, fuel and parkingSensible if you want a car for the week. Less so straight off a long-haul flight on unfamiliar lanes
Coach4 hours or moreCheapestNo direct service. Usually via London or Oxford, then a local bus or taxi

Chauffeur prices are per vehicle, not per person. For a couple or a family, one vehicle to the door replaces separate rail tickets and a station taxi.

Villages and towns we drive to

Every one of them, including the ones without a station. The routine runs are Broadway, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, Bibury, Burford, Blockley, Moreton-in-Marsh, Cirencester, Tetbury, Painswick, Castle Combe, Chipping Norton, Stroud and Cheltenham, along with the country house hotels between them. If your destination is a cottage on an unnamed lane, send the what3words or the postcode and we will find it.

Journey times run from about 1 hour 20 minutes to Burford and the southern Cotswolds up to a little over two hours for the northern villages around Broadway and Chipping Campden. Planning the villages as a day out from London instead? Our guide to day trips from London by car sets out a loop through Burford, Bibury, Bourton and Stow.

Cotswolds to Heathrow

The return runs at the same fixed price. Give us the flight and we work the pickup back from it, allowing for the lanes, the A40 or M40, and check-in. Early departures usually mean a pickup between 3am and 5am, which is well before the first train from Moreton-in-Marsh and long before a rural taxi will commit. Your chauffeur confirms the night before.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct train from London to the Cotswolds?

There are direct trains from London Paddington to Moreton-in-Marsh, Charlbury, Kingham and Kemble, and to Cheltenham Spa. There is no direct train from Heathrow itself, so you take the Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express into Paddington first. And no Cotswold village other than those few has a station, so the last leg is a taxi either way.

What is the best way to get to the Cotswolds from London?

If you are staying in one town and want to walk from the station, the train to Moreton-in-Marsh or Kemble is hard to beat. If you are going to a village, a cottage or a country house hotel, or you are arriving with luggage after a flight, a car door to door saves both the cross-London leg and the scramble for a rural taxi.

What airport do you fly into for the Cotswolds?

Heathrow for most international arrivals, at around 80 to 100 miles. Birmingham is considerably closer to the northern Cotswolds, at around 40 to 50 miles, and worth considering if the schedule suits. Bristol works for the southern end around Tetbury and Castle Combe.

How long does the transfer take?

Between about an hour and twenty minutes and just over two hours, depending on the village. We work from your real landing time rather than the scheduled one.

Can you collect a group with luggage?

Yes. The V-Class takes up to seven passengers with seven cases in one vehicle, which is usually the point on this route: two taxis from a station becomes one car from the terminal.

Will you drive to a cottage down a single-track lane?

Yes. Send the postcode or the what3words when you book. The fixed price covers the final lane, and the driver is briefed on the address before the day.
