Last Updated: August 2026
Heathrow Terminal 4 is the SkyTeam hub at Heathrow and the home of Qatar Airways and Etihad – Air France, KLM, Korean Air, Saudia and the Gulf carriers all fly from here. It’s the smallest and quietest of Heathrow’s four terminals, it sits on the south side of the airport with its own road approach and rail stations, and in 2026 it’s mid-transformation: a phased revamp running to 2031 has already closed the multi-storey car park and moved all Terminal 4 parking and pick-ups to the Park & Ride. After 13+ years and over 50,000 airport transfers, we at MILE5 handle T4’s south-side logistics daily – and with the June 2026 parking changes, knowing where to actually meet your car matters more here than at any other terminal. Book a fixed-price Terminal 4 transfer and your chauffeur is waiting inside arrivals when you land – no car park hunt required.
This Heathrow Terminal 4 Guide draws on thousands of MILE5 chauffeur transfers, updated for August 2026 with every fact re-verified. Whether you’re flying Qatar to Doha, KLM to Amsterdam, Air France to Paris or Korean Air to Seoul, the sections below cover airlines, the new parking and pick-up reality, security, prices and how T4 connects to Terminal 2, Terminal 3 and Terminal 5. Landing at T4? Pre-book your Mercedes chauffeur and we’ll meet you inside arrivals with a name board, 24/7, 365 days a year – a far better alternative to Uber & Bolt.
Written by Ian Silva, MILE5’s lead content author. This guide draws on MILE5’s 13 years and 50,000+ airport transfers, plus first-hand research into terminal logistics, fleet operations, and London airport routes.

What Is Heathrow Terminal 4 Used For? Quick Facts
Terminal 4 is used by the SkyTeam alliance and the major Gulf and Asian carriers outside the big three alliances – it handles international flights only, no domestic. The essentials, verified August 2026:
| Identity | SkyTeam hub plus Qatar Airways and Etihad – opened 1 April 1986, closed during the pandemic, reopened June 2022 with Qatar the first major carrier back |
| Airlines | Air France, KLM, Korean Air, Saudia, China Eastern, China Southern, Vietnam Airlines (SkyTeam) plus Qatar Airways, Etihad, Malaysia Airlines, Gulf Air, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Brunei, Bulgaria Air and more – with PIA and Vueling both added in March 2026 |
| Size | The smallest and quietest of Heathrow’s four terminals – which is exactly why frequent flyers who use it tend to like it |
| Location | South side of the airport, separated from T2 and T3 by the runways – own road approach via M25 J14, the A3113 and the Southern Perimeter Road, postcode TW6 3XA |
| Rail | Own Elizabeth line and Piccadilly line stations directly below the terminal. The Heathrow Express does NOT stop at T4 – Express passengers change at Heathrow Central for the free rail shuttle |
| Parking (changed June 2026) | The T4 multi-storey closed on 23 June 2026 for the terminal revamp – all passenger parking and pick-ups now use Zone A of the Terminal 4 Park & Ride |
| Security | CT scanner lanes – the 100ml liquid rule was scrapped across all Heathrow terminals in January 2026. In 2025, 97% of Heathrow security queue times were under 5 minutes |

What’s New at Terminal 4 – August 2026
The T4 revamp has started – and the multi-storey car park is closed. As part of Heathrow’s £1.3bn 2026 investment, Terminal 4 is getting a phased redevelopment with a new multi-storey car park and an upgraded check-in area, running to 2031. Since 23 June 2026, Terminal Parking and Meet & Greet at the old multi-storey are closed – all passenger parking and pick-ups now use Zone A of the Terminal 4 Park & Ride. Older guides and sat navs will steer you wrong here.
Two airlines joined T4 in March 2026. Pakistan International Airlines resumed UK flights from Terminal 4, and Vueling started Heathrow services the same month.
ITA Airways has left Terminal 4. ITA moved to Terminal 2 on 29 March 2026 as it joined Star Alliance – if you’re flying ITA to Rome, you now need the Terminal 2 Guide, not this one.
The lounge lineup has been rebuilt. The old two-level SkyTeam Lounge is gone: Plaza Premium now occupies the lower floor (pay-per-use, opposite gates 10A and 10B) and the new Saudia Lounge opened above it in April 2025, with Air France’s new flagship lounge due to complete the set during 2026.
The 100ml liquid rule is gone at every Heathrow terminal. Since late January 2026, following the £1bn CT scanner rollout, liquids up to 2 litres per container stay in your bag at T4 security – no plastic bags, laptops stay packed.
Drop-off is £7 with a strict 10-minute maximum. The forecourt charge rose to £7 on 1 January 2026 with number-plate enforcement – overstay and the penalty is £80 (£40 if paid within 14 days). MILE5 clients are dropped at the departures door with the £7 included in the fixed price.
Which Airlines Use Terminal 4 at Heathrow?
Terminal 4 hosts the SkyTeam alliance plus the major Gulf and Asian carriers outside the big three alliances. Two important exceptions trip people up: Qatar Airways is a oneworld member and Etihad is non-aligned, but both are long-established at T4 – and two SkyTeam members, Virgin Atlantic and most Delta routes, fly from Terminal 3 instead. The full August 2026 roster:
| Airline | Alliance | Typical routes from T4 |
|---|---|---|
| Qatar Airways | oneworld | Doha, around eight daily including A380 services – T4’s biggest operator and its main UK hub |
| KLM | SkyTeam | Amsterdam, multiple daily |
| Air France | SkyTeam | Paris Charles de Gaulle, multiple daily |
| Etihad Airways | Non-aligned | Abu Dhabi |
| Korean Air | SkyTeam | Seoul Incheon |
| Saudia | SkyTeam | Jeddah, Riyadh – with its own new T4 lounge since April 2025 |
| China Eastern | SkyTeam | Shanghai |
| China Southern | SkyTeam | Guangzhou |
| Vietnam Airlines | SkyTeam | Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City |
| Malaysia Airlines | oneworld | Kuala Lumpur – at T4 rather than T3 with the rest of oneworld |
| Gulf Air | Non-aligned | Bahrain |
| Royal Air Maroc | oneworld | Casablanca |
| Royal Brunei | Non-aligned | Bandar Seri Begawan |
| Pakistan International Airlines | Non-aligned | Islamabad, Lahore – resumed March 2026 |
| Vueling | Non-aligned (IAG) | Barcelona – started March 2026 |
| Bulgaria Air | Non-aligned | Sofia |
Pro Tip: ITA Airways left Terminal 4 for Terminal 2 on 29 March 2026, and Delta splits by route – New York JFK, Boston, LA, Seattle and Newark fly from Terminal 3, while Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis and Philadelphia use T4. The boarding pass and the live Heathrow departure board are the only sources that count.
How Is Terminal 4 Laid Out?
Terminal 4 is a single building on Heathrow’s south side: arrivals on the ground floor, departures and check-in above, one security search area, and a single airside concourse feeding the gates – with the lounges clustered around the middle of it, opposite gates 10A and 10B. Because it’s the smallest terminal, walks are short by Heathrow standards, and because it’s the quietest, the whole building runs at a calmer tempo than the central area. Check-in zones are lettered across the departures hall with overhead screens directing you by airline; online check-in 24 hours ahead plus bag drop is the fastest route through with any T4 carrier. Check-in opens 3-4 hours before long-haul departures, and closes 60 minutes before with most long-haul airlines – arrive 3 hours before any long-haul flight, 2 hours for the short-haul services.
One layout quirk worth knowing: T4 has its own hotel cluster. The Hilton London Heathrow Airport connects directly to the terminal by a covered walkway – the only Heathrow hotel with a walk-to-check-in link at its terminal – and the Premier Inn and Holiday Inn Express T4 sit a short hop away, which makes T4 the easiest terminal for a night-before-flight stay.
Where Is the Terminal 4 Pick-Up Point? (Changed June 2026)
Since 23 June 2026, the Terminal 4 pick-up point for private cars is Zone A of the Terminal 4 Park & Ride car park – the old multi-storey short stay, where pick-ups used to happen, is closed for the terminal redevelopment. If someone is collecting you by car, they should follow signs for Terminal 4 Park & Ride off the Southern Perimeter Road, park in Zone A, and meet you in the terminal or at the car park; the forecourt directly outside arrivals is drop-off only (£7, 10-minute maximum, £80 penalty for overstaying) and waiting there isn’t an option. Whoever is collecting can follow the flight on our Heathrow live arrivals and taxi page and time the drive to the actual landing.
App pickups (Uber, Bolt) also stage from the car park, which now means the Park & Ride – a longer walk with luggage than it was before June. This is exactly the situation a meet-and-greet chauffeur removes: your MILE5 chauffeur waits inside the T4 arrivals hall with a name board, walks you out, and brings the car to the kerb at the right moment – no Zone A hunt, no £80 gamble on the forecourt. Drivers arrive 30 minutes before landing, track your flight in real time, and the first 60 minutes of waiting are free.
“Landed from Doha on the Qatar A380 with two colleagues and a mountain of sample cases. Our driver was at the arrivals barrier, took the trolley, and had us on the Southern Perimeter Road in ten minutes. Colleagues who ordered an Uber were still finding the new pick-up point when we hit the M25.”

Security and Liquids at Terminal 4
Security at Terminal 4 typically clears in under 10 minutes – it’s the quietest terminal, and across 2025, 97% of Heathrow security queue times were under 5 minutes. Heathrow publishes live wait times for every terminal on its passenger updates page; the busiest T4 window is the morning long-haul bank, roughly 7-10am. Fast Track is bookable from £12.99 per person (6am-9pm) if your buffer is tight.
The liquids rules changed for good in late January 2026: containers up to 2 litres stay in your bag, no clear plastic bags, and laptops, tablets, electric toothbrushes and chargers all stay packed (power banks must travel in hand luggage, never the hold). Two catches: the rule applies where you depart – Doha, Abu Dhabi, Paris and Amsterdam set their own rules for your return leg, and several still enforce 100ml – and metal or insulated bottles must be emptied before screening because the CT scanners can’t see through them. Refill airside.
Terminal 4 Restaurants, Shops and Lounges
Where to Eat at Terminal 4
Terminal 4’s dining is compact but covers the bases. Landside, Co-Pilots Bar & Kitchen serves all-day breakfasts, pizza and mezze in a 1950s-styled room – the spot if you’re eating with people who aren’t flying. Airside, The Commission handles the modern sit-down end, Wild Olive covers Mediterranean plates, Comptoir Libanais does Lebanese, and the Caviar House & Prunier Seafood Bar is the champagne stop. The Star Light – T4’s Wetherspoon, named after the aircraft that made Heathrow’s first civil departure in 1946 – opens from 5am with the chain’s usual breakfast-and-burgers value and app ordering. Costa and Pret cover coffee and grab-and-go. And uniquely for Heathrow, a proper hotel restaurant sits within walking distance: OXBO Kitchen at the Hilton, across the covered walkway, if you’d rather eat away from the terminal entirely.
Shopping at Terminal 4
World Duty Free anchors the airside concourse, with WHSmith and Boots for essentials and a compact set of fashion and accessories boutiques suited to T4’s Gulf-heavy traffic. It’s the smallest retail offer at Heathrow – if a specific purchase matters, use Heathrow’s reserve-and-collect service rather than gambling on stock, or shop before you fly.
Lounges at Terminal 4
The T4 lounge scene has been rebuilt since 2024. The old two-level SkyTeam Lounge is gone: Plaza Premium now runs the lower floor – the pay-per-use option, opposite gates 10A and 10B, open to anyone and bookable in advance – and the new Saudia Lounge opened on the upper floor in April 2025. The Qatar Airways Premium Lounge serves Qatar’s premium cabins and oneworld status holders, Etihad and Gulf Air premium passengers have their arrangements, and Air France’s new flagship lounge is due to complete the lineup during 2026, taking T4 to its strongest lounge offer in years. SkyTeam premium passengers currently use Plaza Premium until the Air France space opens. No status? Book Plaza Premium online ahead of travel – cheaper than walking up, and guaranteed entry.
Getting To and From Terminal 4
Terminal 4 sits apart from the rest of Heathrow, with its own road approach and its own rail stations – which changes the transport maths compared with the central terminals. To compare trains and Ubers at Heathrow read our full guide.
Private Chauffeur Service
MILE5 is a TfL-licensed private hire operator based at 450 Bath Road, minutes from the airport, and T4’s south-side location is where local knowledge pays: the M25 J14 and A3113 approach avoids the central tunnel entirely, and our drivers know the Southern Perimeter Road’s rhythms at every hour. The Mercedes E-Class and S-Class suit business travel; the V-Class carries up to 7 with long-haul luggage. Fixed price, no surge (compare Uber and Bolt), flight tracked, met inside arrivals – and with the June parking changes, the only option that involves no car park at all.
Rail from Terminal 4 – No Heathrow Express
The Elizabeth line serves Terminal 4 directly with four trains an hour, reaching central London in around 35-45 minutes at a flat £15.50 with contactless or Oyster (TfL removed the cheaper off-peak Heathrow fare on 1 March 2026). The Piccadilly line also stops directly at T4 – around £5.90 and 55-65 minutes to central London. The Heathrow Express does not stop at Terminal 4: if you’re set on the Express (£26 walk-up, £10 booked 30+ days ahead, 15 minutes to Paddington), take the free rail shuttle from T4 to Heathrow Central first and allow 20+ extra minutes. For most T4 passengers heading into town, the Elizabeth line is the better rail option outright.
Taxis and Ride-Sharing
Licensed black cabs wait at the rank outside T4 arrivals – metered, typically climbing well past £80 to central London. Uber and Bolt stage from the Park & Ride since the June car park closure, a longer walk than before, and surge pricing tracks the morning and evening long-haul banks. See the comparison guide or Addison Lee vs Uber for the numbers.

Parking at Terminal 4 – The 2026 Reality
Terminal 4 parking changed fundamentally on 23 June 2026: the multi-storey next to the terminal (Terminal Parking and Meet & Greet) closed for the redevelopment, and a new multi-storey won’t arrive until the revamp completes. Until then, all passenger parking uses Zone A of the Terminal 4 Park & Ride on the Southern Perimeter Road, with a bus or short transfer to the terminal, pre-bookable from £46.80. Valet-style options and drive-up convenience parking simply don’t exist at T4 right now – and Heathrow’s own signage is still catching up, so ignore any sat nav or old guide pointing you at the multi-storey. Pre-book weeks ahead for the best rates, or skip the car entirely: a MILE5 return to Windsor is £178 fixed and a Knightsbridge return is £238, door to door with no bus transfer and no walk back to a cold car.
Getting Between Terminal 4 and the Other Terminals
T4 connects to Heathrow Central (Terminals 2 & 3) by a free rail shuttle on the Elizabeth line – just tap through, journeys between Heathrow stations are free – or by the free inter-terminal bus. For Terminal 5, take the free rail link via Heathrow Central and change. Allow 30-45 minutes terminal to terminal, and at least 60-90 minutes for any connection involving security re-screening. Follow the purple Flight Connections signs from arrivals.

How a Car Service to Heathrow Terminal 4 Works
A MILE5 car to or from Terminal 4 is booked at a fixed price, from £119 between T4 and central London in a Mercedes E-Class. Arriving passengers are met inside the arrivals hall with a name board and walked to the car in Park & Ride Zone A; departing passengers are dropped on the forecourt with the £7 charge already included. The price covers flight tracking, 60 minutes of waiting after landing and all airport fees, and it is the same at 05:00 on a bank holiday as on a quiet Tuesday. Enter the route on the booking form for the exact figure.

Terminal 4 Tips from 13 Years of Transfers
Time-Savers and Value
Check Heathrow’s live security wait times before leaving – T4 usually reads “less than 5 minutes” outside the morning bank. If you’re on the Heathrow Express, remember it doesn’t stop at T4; the Elizabeth line direct is almost always the smarter rail choice from here. Book Plaza Premium online a day or more ahead rather than walking up, and if you’re staying over before an early flight, the Hilton’s covered walkway means you can be at check-in minutes after checkout – no shuttle, no taxi. The Star Light Wetherspoon from 5am covers the value breakfast, and the free water fountains airside beat concourse bottle prices.
Peak Time Intelligence – August 2026
August is Heathrow’s school-holiday peak, and the late-August bank holiday weekend (29-31 August) compresses a week of traffic into three days – pad every estimate that weekend. T4’s own rhythm is gentler than the central terminals: the 7-10am long-haul departure bank (Qatar, Etihad, KLM, Air France) is the busiest stretch, with an evening push for the Gulf and Asian departures from 6pm. Midday is genuinely quiet. On the roads, the M25 J14 approach avoids the central Heathrow tunnel entirely, but northbound M25 congestion from 4pm hits the T4 approach too – our drivers route via the A3113 and Southern Perimeter in real time.
Common Terminal 4 Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)
Mistake #1: Booking the Heathrow Express to “Heathrow” for a T4 flight. The Express doesn’t stop at Terminal 4. Take the Elizabeth line direct, or budget 20+ extra minutes for the free shuttle change at Heathrow Central.
Mistake #2: Driving to the old multi-storey. It closed on 23 June 2026. All T4 parking and car pick-ups now use Zone A of the Park & Ride – and plenty of sat navs haven’t caught up.
Mistake #3: Assuming SkyTeam means T4. Virgin Atlantic and most Delta routes fly from Terminal 3 despite being SkyTeam members. Meanwhile Qatar (oneworld) and Etihad (non-aligned) DO fly from T4. Check the boarding pass, not the alliance logo.
Mistake #4: Still heading to T4 for ITA Airways. ITA moved to Terminal 2 on 29 March 2026 when it joined Star Alliance.
Mistake #5: Packing the return leg to Heathrow’s rules. Heathrow allows 2-litre containers; Doha, Abu Dhabi and many other airports still enforce 100ml on the way back. Pack for the strictest airport on your itinerary.
Mistake #6: Waiting on the forecourt to collect someone. The £7 drop-off zone has a 10-minute cap with camera enforcement and an £80 penalty. Pick-ups belong at the Park & Ride – or skip the problem and book a meet-and-greet chauffeur.

“I would never hire another company but this one! They answered promptly and when I inadvertently gave a wrong arrival date they were so accommodating and changed it without fuss. Who doesn’t want to see your name after clearing customs and flying for 12 hours? Great luxury car provided at better pricing. Thanks to all of you”
– Sandy, Google review, July 2026
★★★★★
“Seamless service. Arrived on time; handled luggage (tight fit, but Yusuf got it to work) and got us to airport in plenty of time for our flight. Yusuf was pleasant and helpful. Would definitely use Mile5 on future trips to UK.”
– Eric, Google review, July 2026
★★★★★
“After being seriously let down by BA who sold me a flight (ABZ to BKK) with a ridiculously short transfer between LHR and LGW, which entailed baggage collection and re-check in, I came across MILE5 via AI. MILE5’s service from initial contact, through to ease of booking, payment, reassurance that their driver was aware of timescale limitations and ultimately both meet and greet at LHR T5 to drop off at LGW South was 5 star all the way! All of the above and they also got me to check in with half an hour to spare, saving my flight and the start of my holiday in Thailand.”

Frequently Asked Questions: Terminal 4
What is Heathrow Terminal 4 used for?
Terminal 4 is Heathrow’s SkyTeam hub and the base for the major Gulf carriers. Air France, KLM, Korean Air, Saudia, China Eastern, China Southern and Vietnam Airlines fly from here, alongside Qatar Airways (T4’s biggest operator), Etihad, Malaysia Airlines, Gulf Air, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Brunei, Bulgaria Air, PIA and Vueling. It handles international flights only, and it’s the smallest and quietest of Heathrow’s four terminals.
Is Heathrow Terminal 4 open in 2026?
Yes – Terminal 4 is fully open and operating. It closed during the pandemic and reopened in June 2022, and it’s now partway through a phased revamp running to 2031, which has closed the multi-storey car park but doesn’t affect flights, check-in or the terminal itself.
Where is the Terminal 4 pick-up point?
Since 23 June 2026, car pick-ups at Terminal 4 use Zone A of the Terminal 4 Park & Ride – the old multi-storey is closed for redevelopment. The forecourt outside arrivals is drop-off only (£7, 10-minute maximum). A MILE5 chauffeur removes the car park entirely: we meet you inside the arrivals hall with a name board and bring the car to the kerb.
Has Heathrow scrapped the 100ml liquid rule at Terminal 4?
Yes. Since late January 2026 the 100ml rule is gone at all four Heathrow terminals, including T4. Liquids up to 2 litres per container stay in your cabin bag, no clear plastic bag needed, and laptops stay packed. Airports abroad may still enforce 100ml on your return leg.
How do I get between Terminal 4 and Terminals 2, 3 or 5?
Free rail shuttle: Elizabeth line trains connect T4 to Heathrow Central (T2 & 3), and journeys between Heathrow stations are free – just tap through. For Terminal 5, change at Heathrow Central. A free inter-terminal bus also runs. Allow 30-45 minutes terminal to terminal, and 60-90 minutes if you’ll need to clear security again. The Heathrow Express does not stop at T4.
Is there a Wetherspoons at Heathrow Terminal 4?
Yes – The Star Light, airside at Terminal 4, open from 5am with app ordering. It’s named after the aircraft that made Heathrow’s first civil departure in 1946 and covers the value breakfast-and-pint end of T4’s dining alongside The Commission, Wild Olive and Comptoir Libanais.
Where does MILE5 meet me at Terminal 4?
In the T4 arrivals hall, directly visible from the customs exit, holding a name board. Your chauffeur arrives 30 minutes before landing, tracks the flight in real time, and you get a message when they’re in position – with the first 60 minutes of waiting free. No Park & Ride walk, no forecourt gamble.
How much is a chauffeur from Terminal 4 to central London?
MILE5 fixed prices from Terminal 4 start at £119 to central London in a Mercedes E-Class (Knightsbridge), with Mayfair from £125 and the City of London from £135. Hotel transfers start from £117. Every price is fixed at booking with the drop-off fee and ULEZ included – see our fixed prices for every route.
Terminal 4 Essentials: What to Remember
Terminal 4 is Heathrow’s quiet specialist: the SkyTeam and Gulf-carrier terminal on the south side of the airport, small enough that walks are short and queues are gentle, and currently mid-revamp on its way to a rebuilt forecourt and car park by 2031. August 2026 finds the airline roster refreshed – PIA and Vueling in, ITA out to Terminal 2 – the lounge floor rebuilt around Plaza Premium and the new Saudia Lounge, and the ground transport picture reshaped by June’s car park closure.
The short version: the Heathrow Express doesn’t stop here (Elizabeth line direct instead), the old multi-storey is closed with all parking and pick-ups at Park & Ride Zone A, the forecourt is a £7, 10-minute drop-off with camera enforcement, and arrival 3 hours before a long-haul departure remains the rule. Pre-book your transfer and the messiest part of the new T4 – the pick-up – becomes someone else’s job.
