Gatwick to Worthing Transfer – Fixed-Price West Sussex Chauffeur
A Gatwick to Worthing transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 50 to 70 minutes door to door and from £196 one way, running in both directions at any hour. Your driver is inside the terminal as you come through, name on a board, bags taken from your hands, and you are on the road to the coast while everyone else is still hunting for a taxi rank. One car. One price. No meter.
Worthing sits south-west of the airport, so this is not a London run – you head down rather than up, away from the M25. The usual line is the A24 through Horsham and Ashington, dropping past Findon under the Downs into the top of the town, give or take 30 miles and 50 to 70 minutes. The A24 is a good road but it carries commuter traffic around Horsham, so a weekday morning can stretch the back half of the trip. Your driver plans around your landing time and the time of day, not a flat estimate, and reroutes if the A24 is heavy.
For a single traveller with one bag, the train deserves an honest mention. It is doable, with direct Southern trains from the airport to Worthing about twice an hour, and the trip takes around an hour before you have walked to the Worthing seafront from the station. Add a second person, a case each, or a child, and the door-to-door car is the easier call. We say that to anyone who asks rather than talk them into the bigger fare.
MILE5 has handled airport transfers and private chauffeur trips for over fifteen years and more than 50,000 journeys, and the same fixed-price, licensed service covers every Worthing run, out and back. We hold a TfL licence (No. 009161) and a 5-star Google rating from travellers who come back to us trip after trip.

Every Gatwick to Worthing transfer comes with an inside-terminal meet-and-greet at North or South Terminal arrivals, live flight tracking, and 60 minutes of free wait time so a slow carousel never costs you. We absorb the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge and ULEZ where it applies, handle the luggage door to door, and fit child seats on request at an extra charge, 24 hours a day – the same on the Worthing to Gatwick leg home. The E-Class fits a couple or a lone traveller, the S-Class adds a more formal finish for a business arrival, and the seven-seat V-Class at £291 takes a whole family with the cases to match.
Where We Drop You in Worthing
The seafront is where most journeys end – Marine Parade and the long promenade either side of the pier, where the white Art Deco pavilions and the Edwardian hotels face the Channel. We can set you down right by your hotel; the front is busy in summer, so the driver may pull in just off the parade and walk your bags across. The town centre runs back from the sea around Montague Street and South Street, the pedestrian shopping core, with the Guildbourne Centre behind it. West of the centre, Goring-by-Sea and the leafy avenues towards Highdown are quieter and residential; east, Broadwater and the run towards Lancing fill the gap to Shoreham. Tell us the road name and we work out the closest sensible stop, whether that is a seafront hotel, a house up in Tarring or an apartment in the new Montague Quarter.
What Brings People to Worthing
Worthing is the largest town on the West Sussex coast, and it has spent the last few years shaking off a sleepy reputation to become one of the south coast’s better-regarded places to live and visit. The pier is the centrepiece: built in 1862, Grade II listed, and rebuilt over the decades into the clean Art Deco lines you see now, with a 1930s amusement arcade between two white 1920s pavilions. It was named the country’s best pier – Pier of the Year – in 2006 and again in 2019, and the cafe out at the far end is worth the walk. A short way inland stands the Dome, one of the oldest working cinemas in Britain, opened in 1911 and still showing films behind its Grade II* facade.
The town carries a real literary thread. Oscar Wilde spent the summer of 1894 here with his family and wrote The Importance of Being Earnest while in residence, naming his hero Jack Worthing after the town itself. Jane Austen stayed in 1805 and used the resort as the model for her unfinished novel Sanditon, and Harold Pinter later wrote at his home on the Regency terrace of Ambrose Place. Behind the seafront the South Downs rise quickly: Cissbury Ring, one of the largest Iron Age hillforts in Britain and a Neolithic flint-mining site older than Stonehenge, sits up on the chalk with long views over the town and out to sea, and Highdown Gardens nearby holds a celebrated chalk-garden plant collection. Between the heritage, the Downs walks and a food-and-arts scene that keeps drawing notice, Worthing has more going on than its old image suggested.
Chauffeur, Train or Hire Car
Three ways to get down from the airport, and here is how they really stack up.
| Option | Journey | Luggage & effort | Cost shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| MILE5 chauffeur | 50-70 min, direct, door to door | Met in the terminal, bags carried, no changes | Fixed price, agreed before you fly |
| Train | ~60-75 min, direct Southern train about twice an hour | Carry your own bags, then a taxi from Worthing station | Cheaper solo, dearer once a family adds taxis |
| Hire car | 50-70 min if the A24 behaves | You drive after a flight, then pay for parking | Daily rate, fuel, parking, excess – it mounts up |
What the Route Has Taught Us
A few things I have picked up driving this one. The A24 around Horsham is the bit that moves the journey time – clear at 6am, slow at 8.30 – so for a tight morning flight out of Gatwick we set off earlier rather than cut it fine. The Worthing seafront fills on warm weekends and during the summer events on the prom, and the parade itself has limited stopping, so we often drop a few yards off it and carry the cases the last stretch. For the Goring and Ferring side, the lanes narrow, so a precise address saves a lot of circling. And if you are here for the Downs – Cissbury Ring, Highdown, the South Downs Way – guests often book the airport leg and a separate run up to the car park later, which we are happy to arrange. The Worthing to Gatwick return for an early flight is the one to book ahead; the A24 is quiet before dawn but you do not want to be chasing a cab at 5am.
Meeting You at Gatwick
However the Worthing transfer is booked, your driver follows the flight and is waiting inside the terminal before you reach the concourse. At the North Terminal we stand in the arrivals area past the baggage hall; at the South Terminal, the same, at the meeting point – not a layby, not a car-park phone call. If you would rather know the layout first, our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide show exactly where arrivals comes out and where the driver waits, and the Gatwick flight information page lets you check the live arrivals board and track the inbound flight before you set off. Gatwick runs on North and South Terminals only – no numbered terminals – so once you know your airline’s terminal, the meeting point is straightforward.

Gatwick to Worthing Transfer FAQ
How much is a Gatwick to Worthing transfer?
The run to Worthing starts from £196 in the Mercedes E-Class for up to three passengers, £287 in the S-Class, and £291 in the seven-seat V-Class. The price is fixed, agreed before you travel, identical in both directions, and already includes the meet-and-greet, flight tracking and waiting time.
How long does the journey take, and how far is it?
Around 30 miles and roughly 50 to 70 minutes, heading south-west on the A24 through Horsham rather than up the M25. The Horsham stretch is what varies with the time of day, so an early run is quicker and your driver builds that in.
Do you cover Worthing to Gatwick as well?
Yes. The Worthing to Gatwick leg is the same fixed price and the same service in reverse – collected from your home, hotel or apartment, with the morning traffic watched and time built in for the flight. For early departures we suggest booking the return the night before.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
You do not need to do anything. We track the flight from take-off, so the driver works to the real landing time, and the 60 minutes of free wait absorbs a slow passport queue or baggage belt. A delay does not add to your fixed price.
Can you drop us at Cissbury Ring, Highdown or the South Downs?
We can. Plenty of guests take the airport leg and then a separate run up to Cissbury Ring, Highdown Gardens or a South Downs Way car park – just say so when you book and we will fit it in around your day.
How many passengers and luggage can you take?
The E-Class and S-Class carry up to three with matching cases; the V-Class seats up to seven and takes a full family’s luggage, a buggy or golf clubs. If you are unsure which suits your group, send the numbers and we will tell you straight.
Is the chauffeur cheaper than the train?
For one person travelling light, the train can come out cheaper, and we will say so. For two or more, or anyone with real bags, a child seat or an awkward arrival time, the door-to-door car usually wins once you count the walk to the platform and a taxi from Worthing station.
Do you serve the outlying areas – Goring, Ferring, Lancing?
Yes, the whole Worthing area and the surrounding villages, including Goring-by-Sea, Ferring, Tarring, Broadwater, Lancing and Sompting. Give us the postcode and you get a fixed quote for that exact door, both ways.
Sussex Coast and Beyond
Worthing is one of a run of Sussex coast routes we drive from Gatwick, and the prices sit close together. To the east, our Gatwick to Brighton transfer from £178 and Gatwick to Hove from £177 cover the bigger city, while Eastbourne from £222 reaches the far end of the Downs at Beachy Head. West along the same shore, the Bognor Regis run from £219 handles the next resort, and for the old town and cliffs over towards Kent there is the Gatwick to Hastings transfer from £254.
If you want the full set of routes beyond the capital, the Gatwick long-distance transfers hub lists every coastal and county run, and the main Gatwick airport chauffeur page is where to start if a London hotel or city stop joins the same trip. Weighing the chauffeur against collecting a car at the airport? Our guide on choosing a chauffeur over a hire car sets out what self-driving after a flight actually costs.
