Gatwick to The Wellesley Transfer – Hyde Park Corner Chauffeur
A Gatwick to The Wellesley transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 75 to 95 minutes door to door and from £198 one way, running in both directions 24/7. You land, walk into arrivals, and your driver is waiting with a name board – no app, no rank queue, no surge when several flights arrive at once. The same service runs The Wellesley to Gatwick for your departure, timed to your flight rather than left to chance.
The Wellesley stands right on Hyde Park Corner, on the Knightsbridge edge of the junction and looking across to Hyde Park. From Gatwick it is around 28 miles: the M23 north, then the A23 through south London before the run in to the Corner. Plan for 75 to 95 minutes in normal traffic; a weekday rush hour can add half an hour, and an early Sunday brings it in faster. We track your inbound flight and base the pickup on when you actually land, so a delay on the runway is ours to handle rather than yours.
The cheaper option on paper is the train – Gatwick Express into Victoria in roughly 30 minutes, then a short taxi or a walk through to Hyde Park Corner. It suits a single traveller with light luggage. For two or three with cases, or a tired arrival off a long flight, the change and the final stretch usually cancel out the saving. Where the train is honestly the better call for your particular trip, we will say so rather than push the car.
MILE5 has run airport transfers for over 15 years and more than 50,000 journeys. We are TfL Licensed (No. 009161), fully insured, and carry a 5-star Google rating you can read through our client reviews before booking. The fare is fixed and agreed before you travel, so the figure quoted is the figure you pay.

Pick the class that fits the trip. The E-Class handles up to three passengers with luggage and is the standard for a solo arrival or a couple. The S-Class takes the same number with a more formal finish, which suits the kind of guest this hotel draws. The V-Class steps up to seven seats for a family or a group with more cases. Every fare, whichever class, includes a meet-and-greet inside North or South Terminal arrivals, live flight tracking, 60 minutes of free wait time, the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge absorbed, ULEZ covered where it applies, full luggage handling, child seats on request at an extra charge, and delivery to the hotel’s entrance on Knightsbridge. It runs 24/7, every day of the year.
Hyde Park Corner and the Knightsbridge edge
The Wellesley sits on one of the most recognisable junctions in London. Hyde Park is directly across the road, Wellington Arch stands on the island in the middle of the Corner, and Apsley House – the Duke of Wellington’s old home, once known simply as Number One London – faces the hotel. It is the seam where Knightsbridge, Belgravia and Mayfair all meet, with The Lanesborough as an immediate neighbour. A few minutes west along Knightsbridge are Harrods and Harvey Nichols; Buckingham Palace is a short walk the other way through Green Park; and the museums of South Kensington are close by. For all that it sits on a busy junction, the hotel itself is a calm, small bolthole behind the noise.
For a chauffeur, Hyde Park Corner is one of the trickier set-downs in central London – it is a large gyratory with several feeders, and getting a guest to the right side of it without a lap matters. We know the approach and bring you straight to the entrance under the building’s distinctive arches. If you are using the hotel as a base, we are glad to hold luggage in the car between stops on a half-day booking, which earns its keep on a junction with nowhere to pause.
A jazz-age hotel in an old Tube station
The Wellesley has one of the more unusual back-stories in London. The building began life around 1906 as an entrance to Hyde Park Corner Underground station, designed by Leslie Green – the architect behind the oxblood-tiled station fronts you still see across the city, Covent Garden among them. The three-arch façade and those original oxblood tiles are still there. The station entrance closed in the 1930s, and the site later became Pizza on the Park, a celebrated jazz and cabaret venue that hosted names from George Melly to Amy Winehouse. In December 2012 it reopened as The Wellesley, named after Sir Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, whose Apsley House sits just opposite.
Inside, the design carries the jazz-age theme right through – a 1920s Art Deco style, marble floors, chandeliers and mirrored corridors in what was once the station’s ticket hall. It is a genuinely small hotel, just 36 rooms and suites over seven floors, many of them named after artistic figures like Cecil Beaton, Ella Fitzgerald and Noël Coward. The food and drink punch above that size: the Oval is the hotel’s signature Italian restaurant, the Jazz Lounge does afternoon tea by day and live jazz on Friday and Saturday nights, and the Crystal Bar trades on rare spirits and 1920s glamour. The standout is the Cigar Lounge and its heated terrace, home to one of the largest cigar collections of any hotel in Europe. Round it off with 24-hour butler service and a house Rolls-Royce for short local hops, and it is the kind of address where a smooth, on-time arrival is part of the appeal.
Chauffeur or driving in
For a stay this central, the alternative some visitors weigh is a hire car – and at Hyde Park Corner it makes very little sense. Parking around here is scarce and costly, the junction is one of London’s busiest, and a car would sit unused for most of a city break. The case is laid out in this piece on Addison Lee versus Uber in London when it comes to app cars, but against any self-drive or metered option a fixed-price chauffeur wins on the things that matter on arrival: a named driver inside the terminal before you reach the doors, a price agreed in advance that does not move with demand, and an hour of free wait if the border is slow. Once you are at The Wellesley, the area is walkable and the hotel’s own car covers the short hops, so a transfer in and a transfer out is usually all you need.
What the route has taught us
A few things we have picked up running into this corner. Hyde Park Corner is a gyratory, so the lane and the timing of the approach matter – we plan it so you are set down at the arches rather than carried round again. The Wellesley is easy to walk past given how discreet it is, and it is not to be confused with The Lanesborough right beside it; we confirm the right door. For an early outbound, book the car the night before and let us watch the morning M25, where the southern run back to Gatwick is the bit that catches people out. And The Wellesley to Gatwick gets the same flight-led timing in reverse, leaving room for bag-drop without a long, dead wait at the terminal.
Meeting you at Gatwick
The pickup is the same whichever terminal you land at. At North Terminal or South Terminal your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, your flight already checked – the North Terminal guide and the South Terminal guide show where the arrivals meeting points are if you want to know in advance. We follow your inbound on the Gatwick flight information page, where you can also check the live arrivals board, so an early or late landing simply moves the pickup with nothing for you to do. For The Wellesley to Gatwick we collect from Knightsbridge at the agreed time and run straight to your terminal.

Gatwick to The Wellesley – FAQs
How much is a Gatwick to The Wellesley transfer?
A Gatwick to The Wellesley transfer is fixed from £198 one way in a Mercedes E-Class, £290 in the S-Class, and £295 in the seven-seat V-Class. The fare is the same the other way, The Wellesley to Gatwick, agreed before you travel with no surge pricing and nothing added at the end.
How long does the journey take?
Around 75 to 95 minutes for the roughly 28 miles, via the M23 and the A23. Allow more in weekday rush hour and less early on a quiet morning. Because we track your flight, the timing is built around your real arrival rather than the schedule.
Where will my chauffeur meet me at Gatwick?
Inside the arrivals hall at North or South Terminal, holding a name board, with your landing time already checked. No kerbside rank to find and no car park to walk to – you come through and your driver takes the bags.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing on your side. We track the inbound flight and reset the pickup to when you actually land, and every booking includes 60 minutes of free wait after touchdown to cover passport control and baggage.
Do you also cover The Wellesley to Gatwick?
Yes – the route runs both ways at the same fixed fares. For a departure we collect from the Knightsbridge entrance at a time set around your flight, with enough margin for the M25 and check-in, and take you direct to your terminal.
Which vehicle suits my luggage?
An E-Class or S-Class is fine for up to three passengers with a case or two each. For a family, a group, or extra or oversized luggage, the V-Class gives seven seats and far more boot space – the safer choice if you are unsure.
Is the Gatwick drop-off charge included?
Yes. The £10 Gatwick drop-off charge is built into your fixed fare, as is ULEZ where it applies, so the quote you get is the price you pay.
