Gatwick to Stonehenge Transfer – Door to Door, Met at Arrivals

A Gatwick to Stonehenge transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 1 hour 50 to 2 hours 20 door to door and from £324 in an E-Class, running in both directions 24/7. We meet you inside the terminal, track your flight, and drive straight to the visitor centre on Salisbury Plain – and back the same way for a Stonehenge to Gatwick run, often as one half of a day that also takes in Salisbury or Bath. No meter, no surge, and none of the bus-and-shuttle juggling the public route involves.

Stonehenge stands on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, near Amesbury, about 90 miles west of the airport. We run up the M23, clockwise round the M25, down the M3, then along the A303 to the visitor centre. On clear roads it is close to 1 hour 50; the A303 is the catch, a famously busy single-carriageway road that passes right by the stones and backs up in summer and around the solstice, so we give a range. There is no realistic train option for the monument itself – the nearest station is Salisbury, several miles away, and you would still need a bus or taxi for the last leg after changing through London. A door-to-door car that drops you at the visitor centre and waits is the simple way to do it, especially as part of a wider Wiltshire day.

MILE5 is a TfL-licensed private hire operator (Licence No. 009161) with 15+ years and more than 50,000 airport transfers behind us, and a 5-star Google rating from the people we have driven. The car you book is the car that turns up, at the fixed price you were quoted.

Every transfer to Stonehenge includes an inside-terminal meet-and-greet at North or South Terminal arrivals, with your driver waiting in the hall holding a name board. We track your flight, so a delay or an early landing simply moves the pickup – the fare does not change. You also get 60 minutes of complimentary wait time, the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge absorbed, ULEZ and congestion costs covered where they apply, full help with the luggage, child seats on request at an extra charge, direct door-to-door delivery, and a service that runs 24/7/365.

Where We Drop You at Stonehenge and Nearby

We set you down at the Stonehenge visitor centre off the A360, which is where tickets, the museum and the cafe are, and where the shuttle out to the stones starts; the monument itself sits about a mile and a half away across the field, so the centre is the right drop. Tell us when you book what time you want to arrive. English Heritage tickets are valid all day, and booking online by midnight the day before gets the lower price.

Most people do not come all this way for the stones alone, and the area around them is rich. Salisbury, with its cathedral and an original 1215 Magna Carta, is about twenty minutes south; the older hilltop ruin of Old Sarum sits between the two; and the larger, quieter stone circle at Avebury, where you can walk right among the stones, is a short drive north. Bath, Lacock and Wells are all within a comfortable onward leg. If you want a stop or two added, give us the postcodes and the fixed price covers the route.

What Brings People to Stonehenge

It is the most famous prehistoric monument in Europe, and standing in front of it the scale lands in a way no photograph manages. The stone circle has stood here for around 4,500 years, built and rebuilt in phases between roughly 3000 and 2000 BC, long before the Romans, the Egyptian pyramids’ later dynasties, or anything most visitors expect. The great upright sarsens, some over 20 feet tall and weighing up to 30 tonnes, were dragged from the Marlborough Downs to the north; the smaller bluestones came all the way from the Preseli Hills in west Wales, around 150 miles away, which is a feat that still raises questions about how and why.

The monument keeps producing new answers. In 2024 scientists traced the recumbent Altar Stone at its centre not to Wales but to north-east Scotland, more than 400 miles off, which means stones were carried here from the far ends of the island – a discovery that reshaped how archaeologists read the place. What is certain is that it was built to track the sun: the whole circle is aligned on the solstices, the midsummer sunrise and the midwinter sunset, and to this day English Heritage opens the stones for the solstice gatherings when thousands come to watch the sun come up over the Heel Stone. On a normal day you view the circle from a path a few metres back, which protects the stones, but the alignment and the silence of the plain still carry.

The wider landscape is a Neolithic one, and it is all part of the same World Heritage Site, listed since 1986. The Avenue, a ceremonial route, once linked the circle to the River Avon; the Cursus and the burial mounds of the King Barrows ring the site; and a couple of miles off, the huge earthworks at Durrington Walls are thought to be where the builders themselves lived. The land around the stones is cared for by the National Trust and the monument by English Heritage, so the open downland walks are free even when the circle is ticketed.

If you are choosing between a private car and driving yourself round Wiltshire, our note on why a chauffeur often beats renting a car is worth a read – the A303 and the timed-entry system are easier handled by someone who runs them regularly.

What the Stonehenge Run Has Taught Us

A few things from doing this one. The A303 is the whole story on timing – it can flow or it can crawl past the stones, so we plan to the slower end and set off with room. Early and late visits are calmer than the middle of the day, and the light is better too. Because the visitor centre is a mile and a half from the circle, we factor in the shuttle or the walk when we agree a pickup time for the return. And on solstice dates the roads and the site fill completely, so if that is the plan, tell us and we will set off much earlier and arrange where to wait. For a Stonehenge to Gatwick leg with a flight to catch, the same A303 margin applies in reverse.

Pickups at Gatwick North and South Terminal

We collect from both Gatwick terminals. Your driver meets you inside arrivals – at the North Terminal or South Terminal hall, depending on your airline – holding a name board, so there is no kerbside scramble. If you are not sure which terminal you land at, our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide set out the arrivals layout and where the meeting point sits. Because we flight-track every job, you can also follow your inbound on the Gatwick flight information page and watch the live arrivals board the way we do – if the plane lands early or late, your driver adjusts and the fixed fare stands.

Gatwick to Stonehenge Transfer FAQs

How much is a Gatwick to Stonehenge transfer?

A Gatwick to Stonehenge transfer starts from £324 in a Mercedes E-Class (up to 3 passengers), £466 in the premium S-Class, and £500 in the V-Class for up to 7. The price is fixed and the same in both directions, confirmed when you book – no meter and no surge.

How long does the transfer take?

Around 1 hour 50 to 2 hours 20 for the roughly 90 miles between the airport and Salisbury Plain. It is mostly motorway (M23, M25, M3) before the A303, which is the single-carriageway stretch that decides the timing, especially in summer.

Where exactly do you drop me at Stonehenge?

At the Stonehenge visitor centre, where tickets, the museum, the cafe and the shuttle to the stones all are. The circle itself is about a mile and a half away, reached by shuttle or on foot, so the centre is the correct drop-off.

Do you also do Stonehenge to Gatwick?

Yes. The Stonehenge to Gatwick direction is the same fixed price, and it works well as the end of a Wiltshire day – we collect you at the visitor centre at the time you give us and run you back, building in margin for the A303 if you have a flight.

Can you combine Stonehenge with Salisbury or Bath?

Often the best way to do it. Salisbury and its cathedral are minutes away, and Bath, Avebury, Lacock and Wells are all within reach. Give us the stops and postcodes when you book and the fixed quote covers the day.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Nothing changes for you. We track your flight from the moment you book, so if you land late or early the driver adjusts and the fixed fare stays the same. You also get 60 minutes of complimentary wait time after landing.

How many people and bags fit?

The E-Class and S-Class seat up to 3 with luggage; the V-Class takes up to 7 passengers and is the one for a family or a small group touring Wiltshire in a day.

Stonehenge and the Rest of Our Network

Stonehenge is one of our landmark and day-trip runs, and it sits within the wider Gatwick long-distance transfer service that reaches the towns and destinations beyond London. It is also part of everything we do from the airport, set out on the main Gatwick chauffeur service hub.

The neighbouring landmark and day-trip routes pair naturally with the stones. The royal town and castle is our Gatwick to Windsor transfer from £209; the honey-stone villages are the Gatwick to Cotswolds transfer from £347; and Shakespeare’s town is the Gatwick to Stratford-upon-Avon transfer from £383. For the designer outlet there is the Gatwick to Bicester Village transfer from £306, the Thames-side town is the Gatwick to Reading transfer from £239, and over the Severn lies the Gatwick to Cardiff transfer from £478.

MILE5 covers far more than Gatwick, with chauffeur and airport transfer service across London and beyond. The reviews behind our 5-star Google rating are gathered on our client testimonials page if you want to read what other travellers have said before you book.
