Gatwick to Salisbury Transfer – Straight to the Cathedral City
A Gatwick to Salisbury transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, roughly 1 hour 50 to 2 hours 20 door to door and from £324 one way, running in both directions around the clock. You land, we are already waiting inside the terminal with your name up, and the same driver takes you the 90 miles west to a hotel in the Close, a college, or a village out on the Plain. No platform changes, no dragging cases over a footbridge. The car runs Salisbury to Gatwick the same way for the flight home.
Salisbury sits about 90 miles west of the airport. We run the M23 up to the M25, drop onto the M3, then cross the eastern edge of Salisbury Plain on the A303, or come in on the A30 if the Stonehenge stretch is backing up. A clear run is close to 1 hour 50. Add up to half an hour when the M25 or that single-carriageway pinch by the stones clogs, which it reliably does on summer weekends and around the solstice.
The train is a fair shout if you are one person travelling light. There is no direct service from the airport though, so you change at Clapham Junction or loop through London Waterloo with your luggage, and most of the appeal disappears the moment a second person or a full boot is involved. A car door to door usually wins on effort long before it wins on the clock.
MILE5 is TfL licensed under No. 009161, we have run airport work for over 15 years and more than 50,000 journeys, and the standard is backed by a 5-star Google rating you can read in full before you book.

Where in and around Salisbury we drive
Most arrivals are heading for the Cathedral Close or the streets just off Market Square, the medieval grid the locals still call the Chequers. We deliver to addresses across the city centre, out to Harnham on the water meadows where the classic painters’ view of the cathedral was framed, and up to Old Sarum on the northern edge. Wilton, with its great house and the carpet heritage, is a short hop west. Beyond the ring road the work spreads into the Woodford and Avon valleys and out onto the Plain itself, to Amesbury, Durrington and the garrison villages, where a sat-nav postcode beats a village name every time.
What brings people to Salisbury
The cathedral is the reason most first-time visitors come, and it earns it. Its spire reaches 123 metres, or 404 feet, the tallest church spire in Britain, and unusually the main body of the cathedral went up in one sustained push between 1220 and 1258, which is why it reads as a single clean statement of Early English Gothic rather than a patchwork of centuries. Inside the Chapter House sits the best-preserved of the four surviving original 1215 copies of Magna Carta. The cathedral also keeps a medieval clock dating from around 1386, often described as the oldest working clock in the world, ticking away with no face at all.
There is more once the cathedral is done. John Constable painted this view often enough that it hangs in galleries worldwide, and the meadows he stood in are still walkable. Two miles north, Old Sarum is the ramparted hilltop where the original Norman cathedral and castle stood before the whole settlement moved down to the water in the 1220s. Mompesson House gives you a perfect Queen Anne townhouse inside the Close, Wilton House a few miles out is a film-set stately home in its own right, and Stonehenge is only about ten miles further on, which is why so many of these bookings turn into a two-stop day.
Chauffeur, train or hire car compared
| Option | Door to door | With luggage | After a long flight |
|---|---|---|---|
| MILE5 chauffeur | Terminal seat to your exact address | Carried and loaded for you | Sit back, nothing to navigate |
| Train | No direct line, a change or a London loop | Cases on and off twice | A taxi still needed at the far end |
| Hire car | Depot queue, then 90 miles you drive | You lift it all | Jet-lagged on the M25 and the A303 |
For one traveller with a backpack the train holds up fine. For a couple, a family, or anyone landing tired who would rather not take a strange car down the A303, the maths tips quickly. We have laid out the honest case in our guide on hiring a chauffeur instead of renting a car, which is worth a read if self-drive is your default.
What the run to Salisbury has taught us
Two things shape the timing on this route. The A303 past Stonehenge is single carriageway and it sits still on summer weekends, so for an afternoon arrival we will often leave a little earlier or take the A30 line in. And the Cathedral Close has restricted vehicle access through its old gates, so for a hotel or address inside it we will agree the nearest sensible set-down with you rather than promise a door that a coach cannot reach. If you are pairing the trip with Stonehenge, tell us when you book and we will build the visitor-centre stop into the route properly. For an early flight out, a Salisbury to Gatwick pickup wants to allow for that same A303 stretch first thing, and we would rather start fifteen minutes early than have you watching the clock on the Plain.
Gatwick terminal pickups
We collect from both Gatwick terminals. Tell us the flight, we track it from the air, and your driver is standing in arrivals at North or South Terminal before you reach the hall, name board up, ready to take the bags. If you are unsure which terminal you land in, our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide walk through the arrivals layout and the meeting points. You can also check the live arrivals board and follow your inbound aircraft on the Gatwick flight information page before you set off for the return leg.

Gatwick to Salisbury transfer FAQs
How much is a Gatwick to Salisbury transfer?
Fixed fares start at £324 in the E-Class for up to three passengers, £466 in the S-Class, and £501 in the seven-seat V-Class. The price is the same in both directions and includes meet-and-greet, flight tracking and waiting time.
How long does the journey take?
Around 1 hour 50 to 2 hours 20 for the 90 miles, depending on the M25 and the A303 by Stonehenge. We track your flight and pick the cleaner line on the day.
Do you also cover Salisbury to Gatwick for the flight home?
Yes. The Salisbury to Gatwick leg is the same fixed price and the same service. Give us your flight time and we set the pickup to land you in good time, allowing for the A303 first thing.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing on your part. We track the inbound aircraft, so the driver is there for the actual landing, not the scheduled one, and the 60 minutes of free wait time covers the walk through arrivals and baggage.
Can you add a Stonehenge stop on the way?
Often, yes. Stonehenge is about ten miles north of the city and close to the A303 we already use. Tell us when you book and we will price the stop in and route through the visitor centre rather than improvising it on the day.
Where do you drop off in the Cathedral Close?
The Close has gated, restricted vehicle access, so we agree the nearest proper set-down with you in advance. For most Close hotels and addresses that means a short, level walk at most, with the bags carried to where the car can reach.
Will the driver meet me inside the terminal?
Yes, every time. Your chauffeur waits inside North or South Terminal arrivals with a name board and helps with the luggage from the hall. There is no kerbside scramble and no separate meeting fee.
Planning more than one trip?
Salisbury is one of a set of heritage and university cities we cover from the airport, and the cars and the fixed-price promise are identical across all of them. If your itinerary takes in the colleges, the same long-distance fleet runs our Gatwick to Oxford transfer and Gatwick to Cambridge transfer. For the Georgian west, our Gatwick to Bath service and Gatwick to Bristol service sit naturally either side of a Wiltshire stop, and our Winchester route pairs well if you are tracing the old Wessex capitals.
Every one of these long runs lives under our Gatwick long distance transfers hub, and you can see the full picture of airports, London and beyond on the main Gatwick chauffeur service page. MILE5 also runs chauffeured journeys well outside Gatwick, which you can explore from our main airport transfer site.
