Gatwick to Kensington Transfer – Met at Arrivals, Driven to the Museums and the Palace

A Gatwick to Kensington transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 55 minutes to 1 hour 30 door to door and from £234 one way, running in both directions 24/7. Land at Gatwick and your driver is already inside arrivals with your name, ready to take you and your luggage straight to your Kensington address. The return runs the same way at the same fixed fare, Kensington to Gatwick, timed to your flight.

Kensington occupies a broad slice of west London, from the museum quarter in the south up to the High Street and Kensington Gardens, roughly 28 to 32 miles from Gatwick by the M23 and M25. Off-peak the drive is usually around 55 minutes; the morning and evening peaks through west London can take it past the hour and a half. Kensington is one of the better-connected central areas, so the train is a real option here: the Gatwick Express reaches Victoria in about half an hour, and the District and Circle lines run on to South Kensington and High Street Kensington. The car earns its place when you are carrying luggage, travelling as a family, or simply want one fixed price from the aircraft door to the address.

We are MILE5, a luxury airport transfer and chauffeur firm, TfL licensed under No. 009161, with 13 years and more than 50,000 airport transfers behind us and a 5-star Google rating set out in full on our client reviews. The fare is agreed when you book, so there is no meter and no surge to catch you out.

The fare includes a meet and greet inside North or South Terminal arrivals, flight tracking that moves your pickup to the real landing time, and 60 minutes of complimentary wait. We absorb the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge and any congestion or ULEZ charge that applies on the central leg, and you get door delivery, full luggage handling, free child seats on request and cars 24 hours a day. The E-Class carries up to three passengers, the S-Class is the same size with a more premium cabin, and the V-Class takes up to seven or the heavier luggage of a family arrival.

Where We Drop You in Kensington

Kensington covers a lot of ground, so the exact corner matters. In the south, around Exhibition Road and Cromwell Road, we drop at the museum-quarter hotels and the streets behind them, and at Imperial College for students and visiting academics. North of there the focus shifts to High Street Kensington and the garden squares off it, Kensington Square, Phillimore Gardens and the streets towards Holland Park, along with the embassy townhouses on the gated avenue of Kensington Palace Gardens. We also serve the addresses ringing Kensington Gardens themselves. With so many one-way streets and a busy High Street, the precise door is worth giving us when you book, and the driver will plan the cleanest approach.

What Kensington Is Known For

Much of Kensington exists because of a single Victorian idea. The profits of the Great Exhibition of 1851, championed by Prince Albert, were poured into a quarter of museums and colleges that locals still call Albertopolis. Three of the results are among the best free museums anywhere: the Victoria and Albert Museum for art and design, the Natural History Museum, where the blue whale skeleton named Hope now hangs in the main hall, and the Science Museum just behind. The Royal Albert Hall, opened in 1871, closes the set, and each summer it fills for the Proms, with the gilded Albert Memorial facing it across the road in Kensington Gardens. The gardens themselves hold Kensington Palace, the brick house Wren built up from Nottingham House in 1689, where Queen Victoria was born and which remains the official London residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, though their family now lives near Windsor. Further west, Holland Park keeps its quiet Kyoto Garden and summer opera, and Imperial College anchors one of the world’s leading concentrations of science and engineering. It is a part of London people fly in specifically to see.

Train or Chauffeur, Honestly

Kensington is one of the central areas where public transport genuinely works, so it is worth being straight about it. If you are travelling light, the Gatwick Express to Victoria and then a couple of stops on the District or Circle line will get you to South Kensington or the High Street without much fuss. The car comes into its own with luggage, with children, after a long-haul landing, or when you simply do not want to navigate the Underground with cases. It is also the only option with a price fixed in advance, since app fares rise with demand while ours does not, a difference we cover in our comparison of Uber Exec versus Uber Lux in London. For a light, flexible solo trip the train is fine; for most arrivals into Kensington, the door-to-door car is the easier call.

What This Route Has Taught Us

Kensington runs smoothly most of the time, with two predictable exceptions. The museum quarter around Exhibition Road clogs up in the school holidays, when the queues for the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum spill onto the pavements, and on Proms evenings the streets around the Albert Hall fill quickly, so allow extra time if you are arriving or leaving then. The other thing to know is Kensington Palace Gardens: it is a private gated avenue lined with embassies, so unless you have authorisation we set the drop at the gate rather than driving through. Give us the precise address and we plan around all of it. On the return, Kensington to Gatwick, the slow part is clearing west London to the M25, so we build in a buffer for a morning departure, and for an early flight we suggest booking the night before so the car is waiting at the agreed minute.

Your Pickup at Gatwick

Gatwick runs on two terminals, North and South, and your driver meets you inside the one your flight uses, with a name board at the meeting point once you are through baggage reclaim. We track the inbound on the live arrivals board, so an early or late landing is already handled before you reach the hall. To get your bearings before you fly, our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide cover the meeting points, and you can confirm your inbound is on time on the Gatwick flight information page with its live arrivals board.

Gatwick to Kensington Transfer FAQs

How much is a Gatwick to Kensington transfer?

The fare is fixed at £234 in the E-Class for up to three passengers, £337 in the premium S-Class, and £350 in the seven-seat V-Class. Kensington to Gatwick is charged at the same rate, all inclusive, with no surge pricing and no hidden fees.

How long does it take from Gatwick?

Around 55 minutes to 1 hour 30 over the 28 to 32 mile route. Off-peak it is usually quick once you clear the M25; the slower part is west London at peak times, with extra delay near the museum quarter in the school holidays and around the Albert Hall on Proms evenings.

Do you also run Kensington to Gatwick?

Yes, at the same fixed price and timed to your flight. For early departures we suggest booking the night before and leaving a little extra to clear west London, so you reach the terminal comfortably ahead of check-in.

What if my flight is delayed?

You are covered at no extra cost. We follow your flight on the live arrivals board and move the pickup to your real landing time, and every booking includes 60 minutes of complimentary wait once you are on the ground.

Where will the driver meet me at Gatwick?

Inside the terminal at North or South Terminal arrivals, with your name on a board at the meeting point after baggage reclaim. It is a full meet and greet, so there is no hunting for a car outside the building.

Can you drop me at the museums or Kensington Palace?

Yes, we deliver to the exact door, whether that is a hotel near the V&A, an address by High Street Kensington or a college on Exhibition Road. As Kensington Palace Gardens is a gated private road, we set the drop at the gate unless you have authorisation to enter.

Which vehicle should I book?

The E-Class suits up to three passengers with standard luggage, the S-Class is the same size with a more premium feel, and the V-Class carries up to seven or a larger load, which works well for families visiting the museums and students arriving for term.

Kensington is one of our Gatwick to central London destinations, and because South Kensington is home to Imperial College we see a steady flow of academic arrivals, so it is worth knowing we also publish a guide to airport transfers for international students coming to study in London. The neighbouring prime addresses sit in the same band, with Knightsbridge from £237, Mayfair from £239 and Notting Hill from £236 just to the north.

For the streets in the more affordable south west corridor, a chauffeur to Chelsea starts from £196 and to Belgravia from £198, while Paddington from £239 covers the station and the wider W2 streets to the north east. The full set of routes, from the London areas out to the ports, airports and home counties, is on the Gatwick airport chauffeur hub.
