Gatwick to Hotel Café Royal Transfer – Met at the Arrivals Door
A Gatwick to Hotel Café Royal transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur service, roughly 55 to 90 minutes door to door and from £240 one way, running in both directions around the clock. Your driver waits inside the terminal with a name board, carries the bags, and takes you straight to the doors on Regent Street – no Tube changes with a week’s luggage, no queue at the rank, no surge fare. The same car handles the run back to Gatwick for your flight out.
The Café Royal sits at 68 Regent Street, on the curve where Piccadilly Circus meets the bottom of Regent Street – West End dead centre, with Mayfair on one side and Soho on the other. From the South Terminal it is about 28 miles up the M23 and in along the A23 through Brixton and over the river, or via the A24 depending on how the South Circular is behaving. Reckon on 55 minutes on a clear evening and closer to 90 in the Friday crush. We track your flight and set the pickup off your actual landing time, so a delay doesn’t cost you the car.
The honest alternative is the Gatwick Express to Victoria and a short taxi or a 25-minute walk up to Regent Street – quick and cheap if you are travelling light. With a couple of weeks of cases, a late arrival, or a group of four or more, the car makes more sense: one fixed fare, one car, no lugging bags down to a platform and back up at the other end. We have run MILE5 for 15+ years and more than 50,000 airport transfers, we are TfL licensed (No. 009161), and the 5-star Google rating our passengers leave is the part we are proudest of.

We absorb the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge on the return leg and any ULEZ charge where it applies, handle all the luggage, fit child seats on request at an extra charge, and deliver you to the door – not the end of the street. The line runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Where the West End Drop-Off Actually Happens
Regent Street is one of the harder addresses in London to stop on, and the Café Royal entrance is right on the bend by Air Street, so timing matters. Our drivers know to come down from Piccadilly Circus rather than fighting the one-way system from the Oxford Circus end, and the doormen are used to private cars pulling in for a quick handover. If you are arriving for a show, Theatreland starts two minutes away – the Apollo, the Lyric and the Piccadilly Theatre are all within a short walk, and the Café Royal makes an easy pre-curtain base.
From here you are walking distance to the things people actually come into the West End for: the flagship stores and the Apple shop along Regent Street, the tailoring of Savile Row a block north, Fortnum & Mason and the Royal Academy down on Piccadilly, and the restaurants and Sunday vinyl of Soho immediately east. Liberty is around the corner on Great Marlborough Street. If your trip is leaning that way, our wider Gatwick to Soho chauffeur service (from £241) covers the streets behind Brewer Street and Old Compton Street, where stopping a car is even fussier and a driver who knows the loading bays earns his fee.
A London Address with 160 Years Behind the Door
The Café Royal opened in 1865. Its founder, a French wine merchant named Daniel Nicolas Thévenon, had fled Paris for London two years earlier owing money, changed his name to Daniel Nicols, and built what became the most famous meeting place in the city. By the end of the century the Grill Room – all gilt, mirrors and Louis XVI plasterwork – was where Oscar Wilde held court, and where he fell in and out of favour with Lord Alfred Douglas. Whistler, Beardsley, Shaw, Kipling and Conan Doyle all passed through; Churchill, Muhammad Ali and Diana came later.
The building closed in 2008 and reopened in 2012 as Hotel Café Royal, after a four-year restoration by David Chipperfield Architects for the owners, The Set Collection – the group behind the Lutetia in Paris and the Conservatorium in Amsterdam. The old Grill Room survives as the Oscar Wilde Bar, restored to its original décor and still serving one of London’s better afternoon teas. There are 160 rooms and suites, the subterranean Akasha spa, the Green Bar, Albert Adrià’s Cakes & Bubbles, and Alex Dilling’s Michelin-starred dining room. It is a working piece of London history that happens to have very good beds, and the run up from Gatwick deserves a car that matches the address.
Chauffeur, Train or Ride-Hailing into the West End
For a central address like this there is no motorway-versus-back-road debate to win – the question is simply which way of getting from the runway to Regent Street suits the trip. The Gatwick Express plus a taxi from Victoria is the budget answer and a sound one if you can manage your own bags on and off the platform. A black cab or an Uber from the rank works too, but the meter runs on the traffic and a busy evening into the West End can turn an estimate into something you didn’t agree to. If you want to see how the chauffeur option lines up against app-based cars on price and reliability, our Addison Lee versus Uber comparison breaks it down. With us the fare is fixed before you fly, the wait time is already paid for, and the car is the same Mercedes whether it is raining or it is New Year’s Eve.
What the Café Royal Run Has Taught Us
A few things we have learned doing this route. Arrivals into the West End between five and seven on a weekday are slow no matter which river crossing we pick, so if you have a dinner booking, build in a buffer rather than cutting it fine. For the Café Royal to Gatwick leg, the smart move on an early flight is a pickup that looks too early by ten minutes – the M25 anticlockwise before seven is reliable, and arriving with time to spare beats sprinting the South Terminal concourse. If you are checking out and want to leave bags for the day, the hotel will hold them, so we can collect you later from the same door. And on a V-Class group run, tell us the case count when you book – seven seats and seven large suitcases don’t both fit, and we would rather size the car right than surprise you on the pavement.
Pickups from Gatwick North and South Terminal
Whichever terminal you land at, your driver meets you inside, in the arrivals hall, holding a board with your name – not waiting in a car park or texting you to come outside. If you are new to the airport, our Gatwick North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide walk through exactly where the meeting points are and how the two terminals connect. We follow your inbound flight on the live Gatwick arrivals board, so if you land early or late the car is timed to you, and the 60 minutes of free wait covers the walk through immigration and baggage reclaim without anyone watching a clock.

Gatwick to Hotel Café Royal – FAQs
How much is a Gatwick to Hotel Café Royal transfer?
A Gatwick to Hotel Café Royal transfer is from £240 in a Mercedes E-Class (up to 3 passengers), £346 in an S-Class, and £360 in a V-Class for up to 7. The price is fixed at booking and identical in both directions, so Hotel Café Royal to Gatwick costs the same.
How long does the journey take?
About 55 to 90 minutes for the 28 miles between Gatwick and Regent Street, depending on the time of day. Late evenings and weekend mornings are quickest; the weekday rush hours into and out of the West End are the slowest.
Can you collect me from the Café Royal for my flight back?
Yes. The Hotel Café Royal to Gatwick leg runs at the same fixed price, picking up from the door on Regent Street. Give us your departure time and we will set a pickup that gets you to the right terminal with comfortable margin.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track your flight from the live Gatwick arrivals board and adjust the pickup to your actual landing time at no extra cost. Every booking includes 60 minutes of free wait time to cover immigration and baggage reclaim.
Where will my driver meet me?
Inside the terminal. Your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall at the North or South Terminal with a name board and helps with the bags from there to the car.
Which Mercedes should I choose?
The E-Class suits one to three travellers with normal luggage. The S-Class is the same capacity with a more formal finish. The V-Class takes up to seven and is the one to pick for families, groups or a heavy case count – let us know the luggage when you book.
Can I add a stop on the way?
Yes, just tell us when you book. A short detour – dropping a colleague in Mayfair, a quick stop at the office – can usually be folded in, and we will confirm any change to the fixed fare upfront.
