Gatwick to Guildford Transfer – A Direct Run Into Surrey’s County Town

A Gatwick to Guildford transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 40 to 55 minutes door to door and from £193 one way, running in both directions 24/7. Your driver meets you inside the terminal and takes you straight to your address – the High Street, a Surrey Research Park office, the university or a hotel – with no change at Redhill and no taxi rank at the far end. The Guildford to Gatwick leg runs the same way for the trip back, timed around your flight.

Guildford sits in west Surrey on the River Wey, about 27 miles from Gatwick. The drive runs north on the M23, west along the M25, then south down the A3 into town – roughly 40 minutes when the roads are clear, closer to 55 if the M25 or the A3 around the Wisley stretch is busy. It is a route we cover constantly, with a steady mix of business travellers, university families and residents.

A fair share of our Guildford work is corporate. The town and the Surrey Research Park draw a lot of inbound visitors, and a meet-and-greet at arrivals with a quiet car and a known fixed fare is easier to put on an expense line than a metered ride. For families and groups, the V-Class takes up to seven on one fare, which suits a university move or a weekend visit.

MILE5 is a TfL licensed private hire operator (Licence No. 009161) with fifteen years and more than 50,000 airport transfers behind it, and a five-star Google rating you can read on our reviews page. The timings here come from drivers who run the A3 corridor all the time.

Every Gatwick to Guildford transfer includes an inside-terminal meet-and-greet at North or South Terminal arrivals, live flight tracking, and 60 minutes of complimentary wait time, so a late landing never costs you the car. The £10 Gatwick drop-off charge is absorbed, ULEZ is covered where it applies, and there is full luggage handling, child seats on request at an extra charge, and direct delivery to your door. We run 24/7, and the Guildford to Gatwick direction is the same fixed price, so a return stays symmetrical with no homeward premium.

Where We Take You in Guildford

The town centre is the most common drop, and the steep cobbled High Street is largely pedestrianised, so we will get you to the nearest vehicle access and the rest is a short walk. For the University of Surrey and the cathedral we head up Stag Hill on the western edge; for the business parks it is the Research Park and the offices out towards the A3. Hotels are scattered between the centre, the river and the ring road, so the postcode tells us exactly where to go.

Guildford is also a hub for a wide slice of west Surrey, and plenty of journeys carry on past the town to the surrounding villages – Shere, Albury, Compton and the slopes of the Surrey Hills. Whichever address you give us, we route to the door rather than dropping at a generic town-centre point.

What Guildford Is Known For

Two landmarks bookend the town’s skyline. On Stag Hill, visible for miles, stands Guildford Cathedral – a striking modern building in red brick made from the hill’s own clay, designed by Sir Edward Maufe and consecrated in 1961 in the presence of the Queen. It was the last Church of England cathedral built on a new site, one of only three raised in the twentieth century, and it was funded in part by some 200,000 people who each “bought a brick” for half a crown, which is why locals still call it the People’s Cathedral. Film fans know it from a memorable scene in The Omen, and the University of Surrey, which shares Stag Hill, holds its graduations under that 160-foot tower with its wind-turned gilded angel.

Down in the old town, the story runs back much further. A Norman motte-and-bailey castle, later turned into a royal residence by Henry III, still crowns its mound – you can climb the keep for a view over the rooftops, and the castle gardens are some of the prettiest in Surrey. The High Street keeps its medieval and Georgian frontages and the dramatic Guildhall clock, gilded and projecting right out over the street, in place since 1683. Guildford also has a genuine literary claim: Lewis Carroll kept a family home here, died in the town in 1898 and is buried in it, and two bronze Alice sculptures mark the connection – one in the castle grounds, the other by the River Wey at Millmead.

The river is the third strand. The Wey winds through the centre past the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and the National Trust’s Dapdune Wharf, where you can still see the restored barges of the old Wey Navigation, and rowing boats go out from the towpath in summer. Walk a little further and the Surrey Hills open up at Newlands Corner and St Martha’s, which is why the town works equally well as a base for the countryside as for the shops.

Guildford Transport Options Compared

Guildford is well connected, but not by a single quick train from the airport, so it is worth weighing the options.

OptionJourneyThe trade-off
MILE5 chauffeurDoor to door in one car, from £193, around 40-55 minPremium price, but fixed and direct with no changes
TrainGatwick to Guildford by direct GWR train, about 55-75 minCheaper for one, but a connection and an onward leg with bags
Drive or hire carM25 and A3, plus town or office parkingYou drive after a flight; parking adds up in the centre
Taxi or rideshareOne-way around 27 milesNo fixed quote; fares rise at busy times

For corporate travellers who would otherwise book a premium minicab, it is worth comparing how the app options stack up – our look at Addison Lee versus Uber sets out where a pre-quoted chauffeur fare wins on certainty.

What the Guildford Run Has Taught Us

A few notes from running this route regularly. The A3 around the Wisley and Burpham stretch is the usual pinch point, so for a tight inbound meeting we build a margin in rather than cutting it fine. The High Street is cobbled and largely closed to traffic, so we drop at the nearest access on Friary Street or the riverside car parks and it is a short, level walk into the centre. For the University of Surrey at the start of term, book ahead – graduation weeks and the September intake are among our busier dates. And for the Guildford to Gatwick leg on an early flight, a pre-booked car removes the gamble of an early train and a station run with your bags.

Gatwick Terminal Pickups

We meet every arrival inside the terminal. For a Gatwick to Guildford transfer your driver tracks the inbound flight, parks up, and waits in the arrivals hall at North Terminal or South Terminal with a name board – we work only the two Gatwick terminals, never anything labelled T2 to T5, which belong to other airports. If you are unsure which terminal your airline uses, our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide set out the arrivals halls and meeting points. You can also confirm your inbound status on the Gatwick flight information page, which lets you check the live arrivals board and track your flight before you travel. For the Guildford to Gatwick direction we simply reverse the process, timed to reach your departure terminal in good time.

Gatwick to Guildford FAQs

How much is a Gatwick to Guildford transfer?

A Gatwick to Guildford transfer starts from £193 in the E-Class (up to 3 passengers), £282 in the S-Class, and £286 in the seven-seat V-Class. Prices are fixed and all-inclusive; the final quote depends on your exact postcode and any extra stops.

How long does the journey from Gatwick to Guildford take?

Around 40 to 55 minutes, depending on the M25 and the A3 near Wisley. It is roughly 27 miles, run via the M23, M25 and A3, and we time it around your flight and any meeting you are heading to.

Can you take me back from Guildford to Gatwick?

Yes. The Guildford to Gatwick leg is the same fixed price as the outbound run. For an early flight it is more reliable than the first train of the day, and we will set a sensible pickup time.

What happens if my flight into Gatwick is delayed?

We track your flight from departure, so the driver adjusts to the real landing time at no extra charge. Every transfer includes 60 minutes of complimentary wait time after you land, with meet-and-greet inside the terminal.

Do you cover the University of Surrey and the Research Park?

Yes. We run regularly to Stag Hill, the cathedral and the Surrey Research Park, and we do a lot of term-start and graduation-week journeys. Give us the building or residence and we route straight there.

How many passengers and bags can you carry?

The E-Class and S-Class take up to three passengers, and the V-Class seats up to seven – ideal for a family, a university move or a group sharing one fare. All vehicles handle full luggage, and child seats are available on request at an extra charge.

Can you collect international students arriving for the new term?

Yes, that is a busy part of our year. The University of Surrey draws a large international intake, and a door-to-halls transfer takes the strain out of the first day; our guide to airport transfers for international students covers the detail.

Planning the Wider Trip

Guildford sits among the Surrey towns we cover, and the neighbouring towns make easy add-ons. We run fixed-price Gatwick chauffeurs north to Woking and east to Epsom and Leatherhead, and south-west to Godalming and Farnham on the Hampshire border – each with the same meet-and-greet and fixed fares. Students and families arriving for the University of Surrey can also see our guide to airport transfers for international students.

This route is part of MILE5’s wider network from Gatwick. You can see the full spread of beyond-London destinations on our Gatwick long-distance transfers hub, or browse every service – airport, hotel and city – from the main luxury Gatwick airport transfer page.
