Gatwick to ExCeL London Transfer – Straight to the Right Entrance

A Gatwick to ExCeL London transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 60 to 90 minutes door to door and from £222 one way, running in both directions 24/7. ExCeL sits out in the Royal Docks, the far east of the city, and we drive you straight to the correct entrance – no train changes, no Tube with your show kit, no surge after a late flight.

See your fixed price

ExCeL is about 35 to 40 miles from the airport, and unlike most of our London runs it means crossing to the far side of the river. From the terminals the driver takes the M23 up to the M25, then comes through South-east London to the Blackwall Tunnel and into the Royal Docks, or rounds to the Dartford Crossing and approaches from the east on the A13. Reckon on 60 to 90 minutes. The river crossing is the variable on this one: both the Blackwall Tunnel and Dartford back up at peak, so we watch the live traffic and choose the crossing on the day rather than committing blind. It is a longer drive than our central runs, which is why ExCeL sits in a higher price band than inner London.

There is one thing worth getting right before you travel. ExCeL is enormous – the venue runs 600 metres end to end, with its own station at each end. Custom House on the western side serves the main event halls; Prince Regent on the east serves the International Convention Centre. Tell us the hall number or the show name when you book and we set you down at the entrance nearest your stand, which is the part a train or an app simply cannot do. MILE5 has run London airport transfers for over 15 years and more than 50,000 journeys, we are fully TfL licensed (No. 009161), and the service is backed by a 5-star Google rating you can read on our client reviews page.

All prices are fixed, all inclusive, and start from the amounts shown. Final quote depends on exact postcode, vehicle choice, and any additional stops. No surge pricing, no hidden fees.

The E-Class carries up to three passengers with luggage; the S-Class is the same run with more room and a higher finish, which is the one most exhibitors and senior delegates take; the V-Class seats up to seven and swallows the awkward loads – pull-up banners, sample cases, a flight case or two. Every fare includes a meet-and-greet inside North or South Terminal arrivals, flight tracking, 60 minutes of complimentary wait time, the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge, ULEZ where it applies, full help loading and unloading, child seats on request at an extra charge, and delivery to the exact ExCeL entrance you need. The quote is fixed when you book and does not move, on time or delayed.

Where We Drive at ExCeL and the Royal Docks

The whole site runs along the north quay of Royal Victoria Dock, and we deliver across all of it: the western halls by Custom House, the eastern ICC by Prince Regent, the executive suites and the conference floors in between. The two on-site hotels, the Aloft and the DoubleTree by Hilton, sit at either end of the campus, so a great many of our jobs are airport-to-hotel-to-stand over a multi-day show. Beyond the venue itself the Royal Docks have filled in around it – apartment towers, the IFS Cloud Cable Car sailing over the water, and London City Airport barely five minutes east, which is worth knowing if your inbound connects through there. Give us the postcode or the hall, and for hotels the name, and the driver plans the final approach so you are set down at the door rather than the nearest main road.

What Happens at ExCeL

ExCeL opened in November 2000 on a 100-acre stretch of the old Royal Docks, and it has grown into the biggest venue of its kind in the country. It is owned by Abu Dhabi’s ADNEC group, who built London’s first International Convention Centre here in 2010 and have since poured a £350 million expansion into the site – around 270,000 square feet of new halls and meeting space across two floors, which the operator now bills as the largest fully integrated conference and exhibition centre in Europe. If you have been to a major London trade show, you have probably been here: the defence show DSEI, the all-electric Formula E finale, MCM Comic Con, vast medical and tech congresses, and the consumer exhibitions that fill the halls on weekends. The venue has history beyond the show calendar too – it hosted boxing and other events at the 2012 Olympics, and during the pandemic it became the NHS Nightingale Hospital London.

The newer draw is Immerse LDN, the immersive entertainment district that opened on the waterfront in August 2024 with experiences like the Formula 1 Exhibition and the Friends experience, pulling a different, more leisure-minded crowd out to the Royal Docks. Whether you are exhibiting, speaking, attending a congress or just visiting a weekend show, the run from the airport is the same shape: a long, fixed-price drive to a venue that is genuinely awkward to reach with luggage by any other means. That awkwardness is exactly why a Gatwick to ExCeL London transfer earns its place over the train for so many of the people we carry.

Getting From Gatwick to ExCeL: The Options

For a venue this far east, the realistic alternatives are worth laying out honestly. The Elizabeth line has transformed access to ExCeL since 2022 and reaches Custom House in around 12 to 15 minutes from central London – genuinely excellent if you are already in town and travelling light. From Gatwick, though, it means Thameslink to Farringdon first and then the Elizabeth line out to Custom House, so there is a change with your bags in the middle. Ride-hailing covers the door-to-door gap but trades it for variable pricing, and an evening surge when a show closes is common. The table below is how we would weigh it up for someone landing at Gatwick with exhibition kit or a few days’ luggage; if you are comparing the corporate apps in particular, our Addison Lee versus Uber breakdown covers how the two behave on London business runs.

What the Route Has Taught Us

The hard-won lesson on this run is the river. The motorway part is predictable; the Blackwall Tunnel and the approaches to it are not, and a crossing that takes ten minutes off-peak can swallow forty in the wrong hour. For a fixed event start – a keynote slot, a build-up deadline – we set off with that margin built in rather than hope. Exhibitors should know that build-up and breakdown days have their own loading windows and traffic management around the venue, so tell us if you are arriving to dress a stand and we will time it. The other classic is the return: when a big show closes, the whole venue empties at once and the rank and the apps both seize up, so a pre-booked ExCeL to Gatwick pickup waiting at your entrance is worth a great deal at five o’clock on the last day. And if you are out here for an evening event or an Immerse LDN show, book the ExCeL to Gatwick leg in advance, because late-night transport from the Royal Docks thins out fast.

Terminal Pickups at Gatwick

A large share of ExCeL traffic is international, so most of these jobs begin with a long-haul arrival. Your driver meets you inside arrivals at your terminal, North or South, holding a name board – not outside at a rank, and not in a car park. We track the flight from take-off, so an early landing or a diversion is already handled by the time you reach the doors. To confirm your terminal and check live arrival times before you travel, the Gatwick flight information page has the live arrivals board, and our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide show where the meeting point sits so you walk straight to it.

Gatwick to ExCeL London Transfer FAQs

How much is a Gatwick to ExCeL London transfer?

A Gatwick to ExCeL London transfer starts from £222 in the Mercedes E-Class, £322 in the S-Class and £332 in the seven-seat V-Class. It is the same price in both directions, fixed when you book, and includes the meet-and-greet, flight tracking and waiting time. ExCeL prices a little higher than central London because it is a longer drive across to the Royal Docks.

How long does the journey take?

Allow 60 to 90 minutes for the 35 to 40 mile run, depending on the river crossing. The motorway stretch is steady; the Blackwall Tunnel or the Dartford Crossing is where the time varies. We track your flight and pick the crossing from the live traffic, and for a fixed event start we build in extra margin so you arrive with time to spare.

Which ExCeL entrance will you drop me at?

Whichever one you need. Tell us the hall number, the show name or the suite and we set you down at the nearest entrance – Custom House and the western halls, Prince Regent and the ICC to the east, or one of the on-site hotels. ExCeL is too big to leave to chance, so the more detail you give us the closer we get you to your stand.

Do you cover the ExCeL to Gatwick direction?

Yes, and it is priced identically. The ExCeL to Gatwick leg is one most people pre-book, because when a show closes the venue empties all at once and on-demand transport from the Royal Docks gets scarce. A driver already waiting at your entrance takes that problem away on the last afternoon.

What if my flight is delayed?

It is covered. We monitor the flight from departure, so the driver adjusts to an early or late landing and is there when you clear the terminal. The 60 minutes of free wait time absorbs the usual immigration and baggage queues, and because the fare is fixed a delay never adds to the price.

Can you carry exhibition kit and extra luggage?

Yes. The V-Class is built for it – banners, sample cases and flight cases go in alongside the passengers, and the driver does the loading. If you are bringing a genuinely large load, tell us when you book so we send the right vehicle rather than discover it at the kerb.

Do you serve the other big London venues too?

We do. The O2, the Olympic Park at Stratford, Twickenham and Wembley all run on the same fixed-price basis from Gatwick, so a multi-venue trip can be booked as a set with one point of contact.

ExCeL and the Other London Venues

ExCeL is one of a cluster of big-venue runs we cover, and they all work the same way from the airport. For an arena night the Gatwick to The O2 transfer is from £216, just across the river in Greenwich; the Gatwick to Stratford transfer for the Olympic Park, the London Stadium and Westfield is from £222 (that is Stratford in East London, not Stratford-upon-Avon); and for the rugby, a Gatwick to Twickenham transfer out to the south-west runs from £213. For the national stadium and the big concert nights, the Gatwick to Wembley transfer is from £248, the furthest north-west of the set.

If your plans are still loose, the Gatwick to London transfer hub sets out every London area we serve with current pricing, and our main Gatwick airport transfers page covers the full range across hotels, London and the wider region. ExCeL itself is handled as one of those London routes, with the same fixed fare and meet-and-greet wherever you are headed. Book through MILE5 and the ExCeL to Gatwick return is as straightforward as the run in.
