Gatwick to Croydon Transfer – The Short Run North, Door to Door
A Gatwick to Croydon transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 25 to 40 minutes door to door and from £156 one way, running in both directions around the clock. Croydon is the closest of our central runs to the airport, so this is a quick, low-cost hop – your driver meets you inside the terminal with your name and takes you straight to the door, no rank queue and no surge. The same fixed price runs the other way, so a Croydon to Gatwick pickup for an early flight is booked exactly the same way.
This is one of the shortest runs we do. Croydon sits directly north of the airport, so the route is a straight one – up the M23 and onto the A23 and Purley Way into the town – covering about 14 miles in roughly 25 to 40 minutes, quicker off-peak and slower if the A23 or the Purley Way retail stretch is busy. There is no need to touch the M25. The price is fixed either way, whatever the traffic does.
The train is a genuinely strong option to Croydon and we will say so plainly: East Croydon is one of the busiest interchanges in the South East, and fast Southern and Thameslink services link it to the airport in around fifteen minutes. If you are travelling light and your destination is near the station, that is excellent value. The chauffeur earns its place across the rest of a sprawling borough – the town is large and the station is not close to everything – and whenever you have luggage, a group, children, a business meeting to be on time for, or an early or late flight.
MILE5 is a TfL-licensed private hire operator, licence number 009161, with more than fifteen years and over 50,000 airport transfers behind it, and a 5-star Google rating built on what our clients actually say. Fixed pricing, no meter, no surge.

Where We Drop You Around Croydon
Croydon is one of London’s largest districts and we cover the whole spread of it. Most runs end in or near the town centre – East Croydon and West Croydon, the office quarter along Wellesley Road, and the shopping core around the Whitgift Centre and Centrale – but we reach just as easily out to South Croydon, Purley, Addiscombe, Sanderstead and Selsdon, north to Thornton Heath and Norbury, and along the tram line to Addington and New Addington. The business parks off the Purley Way, the hotels around the centre, and addresses up towards Crystal Palace are all routine. Tell us the postcode and we deliver to the door.
What Brings People to Croydon
Croydon is the commercial heart of south London – a town in its own right long before it became a borough, and now one of the largest office and retail centres outside the city core. A lot of arrivals here are travelling for business, headed for the towers around East Croydon, and that station is the other big draw: a major interchange that funnels trains to Gatwick, Brighton, London Bridge and Victoria, and the hub of London’s only tram network, which runs out to Wimbledon, Beckenham and New Addington.
There is more to it than offices. Boxpark Croydon, built from stacked shipping containers right by East Croydon, has become the town’s social anchor – street food, bars and a live-events space under one roof. Fairfield Halls, reopened after a major refurbishment, brings the Croydon Concert Hall and the Ashcroft Theatre back into use for music and drama. The Surrey Street Market has traded in the centre for centuries, the Museum of Croydon and the Clocktower sit in the old town hall, and Crystal Palace Park, with its Victorian dinosaurs, is a short ride north. For a quick visit, Boxpark and the centre cover most of it; for a longer stay, the green edges towards Sanderstead and Selsdon are some of the leafiest in south London.
Set against the alternatives, the case is clear. The fast train to East Croydon is hard to beat for a light traveller headed near the station. The catch with a sprawling borough is the last mile – your meeting or hotel may be a tram ride or a long walk from the platform – and that is where a door-to-door car pays off, especially for business travel where arriving on time matters. If you are weighing a chauffeur against hiring a car for the trip, our note on why a chauffeur often beats a hire car runs through the parking, congestion and time costs that rarely show up in the headline rental price.
What This Route Has Taught Us
A few things this run has taught us. Croydon’s centre is a knot of dual carriageways, flyovers and tram tracks, and Wellesley Road in particular is no place for a relaxed pull-up, so for a central address we will pick a side street or a forecourt rather than stop on the main drag. The Purley Way clogs around the retail parks at weekends – the IKEA traffic is real – so if your address is out that way we time around it. For a business pickup we would always rather arrive early and wait than leave you watching the clock, and because Croydon is so close to the airport we can usually do exactly that. Coming back the other way, on a Croydon to Gatwick run, the short distance means even an early flight needs less of a buffer than the central London routes – though we still build one in.
Gatwick Terminal Pickups
Pickups work the same at both Gatwick terminals. We track the inbound flight from the moment it leaves, so a delay or an early touchdown just moves the meet – you are not charged for our waiting. For North Terminal arrivals your driver waits in the arrivals hall by the exit from baggage reclaim, and our North Terminal guide shows exactly where, as does the South Terminal guide for South arrivals. To watch the live arrivals board or check an inbound before you set off for the return leg, the Gatwick flight information page tracks it. The sixty minutes of complimentary wait built into every pickup covers a slow carousel or a long border queue.

Gatwick to Croydon Transfer – FAQs
How much is a Gatwick to Croydon transfer?
A Gatwick to Croydon transfer is from £156 one way in the Mercedes E-Class, £231 in the S-Class and £233 in the seven-seat V-Class. The price is fixed and identical in both directions, so a Croydon to Gatwick run costs the same. It is one of our lower fares, because Croydon is close to the airport.
How long does the journey take?
Usually 25 to 40 minutes for the 14-mile run up the A23, quicker off-peak and slower if the Purley Way is busy. It is one of the shortest transfers we run from Gatwick, and the fixed fare does not change with the traffic.
Where will my driver meet me at Gatwick?
Inside the arrivals hall at whichever terminal you land in, North or South, holding a name board by the exit from baggage reclaim. There is no rank to find and no kerbside scramble – your driver is waiting before you reach the door.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
We track the flight, so a delay or an early landing simply moves the meeting time. The sixty minutes of free wait covers the usual hold-ups at the carousel or border, and a tracked delay does not add to the fixed price.
Can you do the return, Croydon to Gatwick?
Yes. The Croydon to Gatwick direction is the same fixed price, booked the same way. Because the run is short, even an early flight needs only a modest buffer, which we will build into the pickup time.
Is a chauffeur worth it when the train is so quick?
For a light traveller heading near East Croydon, the train is excellent value and we will say so. The car pays off when your address is away from the station across a large borough, when you have luggage or a group, or when a business meeting means arriving on time matters more than saving a few pounds.
How many passengers and bags can you take?
The E-Class and S-Class carry up to three passengers with luggage; the V-Class takes up to seven. Your driver handles the cases, and child seats are available on request at an extra charge – just note what you need when booking.
