Gatwick to Battersea Transfer – To the Power Station and the River

A Gatwick to Battersea transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 40 to 55 minutes door to door and from £197 one way, running in both directions 24/7. You land, your driver is inside the terminal with your name, and you go straight to the car – no rank, no surge, no change at Clapham Junction with your cases. Battersea sits on the south bank opposite Chelsea, and we deliver to the door, Power Station, park or back streets.

Battersea is about 24 to 26 miles north of the airport. The driver runs up the M23 to the M25, comes in on the A3, and drops down to the river through Clapham and Queenstown Road, or crosses from Chelsea over one of the bridges. Off-peak that is 40 to 55 minutes. The local pinch points are the approaches to Chelsea Bridge and the roads around the Power Station, which fill on event evenings and weekends, so a driver who knows the area picks the line accordingly. Battersea prices in our lower London band, a touch above neighbouring Wandsworth for sitting that bit closer to the centre.

The train is a fair alternative if you travel light – Gatwick to Victoria or Clapham Junction, then a short rail hop to Battersea Park or Queenstown Road, or the Northern line down to Battersea Power Station. The friction is the change with bags. For a family, a late landing, or anyone who would rather not carry cases across a platform, a car that meets you and goes straight there is the easier call. MILE5 has run London airport transfers for over 15 years and more than 50,000 journeys, we are fully TfL licensed (No. 009161), and the service is backed by a 5-star Google rating you can read on our client reviews page.

The E-Class carries up to three with luggage and is the standard choice; the S-Class is the same run with more space and a higher finish; the V-Class takes up to seven, the one most families and groups pick. Every fare includes a meet-and-greet inside North or South Terminal arrivals, flight tracking, 60 minutes of complimentary wait time, the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge, ULEZ where it applies, full help with luggage, child seats on request at an extra charge, and delivery to your front door. The quote is fixed when you book and does not move, on time or delayed.

Where We Drive in Battersea

Battersea has changed beyond recognition along the river while staying much the same behind it, and we cover both. There is the new riverside – the Power Station and Nine Elms, with their apartment towers, offices and the Electric Boulevard high street – then the older Battersea inland, the streets around Battersea Park, Battersea Square and up the rise towards Lavender Hill and Clapham Junction. We deliver across all of SW11 and the SW8 side towards Nine Elms, the hotels and serviced apartments along the river, and the residential roads off Battersea Park Road and Queenstown Road. Across the bridges sits Chelsea, and we cross between the two often. Give us the postcode and the driver plans the approach, because the new-build estates and the river road each have their own access quirks.

The Power Station and the Park

The landmark, of course, is Battersea Power Station. Giles Gilbert Scott’s Grade II* listed colossus, with its four white chimneys, stood derelict for the best part of forty years after it stopped generating, and it reopened to the public in October 2022 after a long restoration. Today the old turbine halls hold more than a hundred shops and restaurants, Apple’s UK campus fills the offices above, and Lift 109 carries visitors 109 metres up the rebuilt north-west chimney for a view across the city. It anchors a wider riverside quarter at Nine Elms, where the new US Embassy opened in 2018 and the Northern line was extended in 2021 to give Battersea its own Underground stations for the first time. Millions of people have been through the Power Station since it opened, and a fair few of our airport runs now end at its door.

The older Battersea is just as much of a draw. Battersea Park is one of London’s great Victorian riverside parks – a boating lake, the Peace Pagoda on the embankment, a children’s zoo and the bandstand, all laid out on land that later hosted the 1951 Festival of Britain pleasure gardens. The Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, founded in 1860, still takes in London’s strays from its site by the park. And the bridges define the place as much as anything: Albert Bridge, lit up at night, Battersea Bridge and Chelsea Bridge all carry you over to Chelsea in a couple of minutes. It is a mix of brand-new and long-established south London, and our work here spans both – residents off on holiday, visitors arriving for the Power Station, and business travellers heading for the Nine Elms offices.

Train, Ride-hailing or Chauffeur

Battersea sits close in, so the comparison is short. Since 2021 the Northern line reaches the Power Station, which is excellent for getting around town, though from Gatwick you still start with a train to Victoria or Clapham Junction and a change. The rail option works light; with bags it is harder. Ride-hailing covers the door-to-door gap, but the fares move with demand and an event night at the Power Station pushes them up – if you are weighing the corporate apps for a Nine Elms office run, our Addison Lee versus Uber comparison covers how they behave on business trips. A chauffeur is the fixed-price middle: agreed in advance, met inside the terminal, and driven to the exact door without a change or a surge.

What the Route Has Taught Us

The river crossings are the thing to watch here. Chelsea Bridge and the roads feeding the Power Station back up on event evenings and busy weekends, so for a fixed arrival we time the approach and sometimes come in from the Clapham side rather than the river. The new Nine Elms estates can be a maze of private roads and controlled entrances, so the more precise the address – the building name as well as the postcode – the closer we get you to the actual door. For early flights out, book the Battersea to Gatwick leg the night before and we will run it in the quiet hours when the A3 is clear and the journey drops well under the hour. And if you are arriving for an event at the Power Station, tell us, because the set-down points shift when the crowds are in.

Terminal Pickups at Gatwick

Gatwick has two terminals, North and South, and your driver meets you inside arrivals at the one your flight lands at – never at a rank, never in a car park. We track the flight from take-off, so an early or delayed landing is already handled by the time you reach the doors. To confirm your terminal and check live arrival times before you travel, the Gatwick flight information page carries the live arrivals board, and our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide show exactly where the meeting point sits so you walk straight to it.

Gatwick to Battersea Transfer FAQs

How much is a Gatwick to Battersea transfer?

A Gatwick to Battersea transfer starts from £197 in the Mercedes E-Class, £288 in the S-Class and £293 in the seven-seat V-Class. The price is the same in both directions, fixed at the time of booking, and includes the meet-and-greet, flight tracking and waiting time. No surge, nothing added on the day.

How long does the journey take?

Around 40 to 55 minutes for the 24 to 26 mile run up the M23 and in on the A3, off-peak. The Chelsea Bridge approaches and the roads around the Power Station can add to it at busy times. We track your flight and set the pickup to your landing so the clock starts when you are ready.

Can you drop me at Battersea Power Station?

Yes, right at it. Whether you are staying at the hotel there, visiting the shops and Lift 109, or working in the offices, we set you down at the entrance you need. On event evenings the immediate set-down points can shift, so tell us if you are arriving for something big and we will plan around it.

Do you cover the Battersea to Gatwick direction too?

Yes, at the same price and just as often. For early departures we recommend booking the Battersea to Gatwick pickup the night before; in the quiet early hours the drive can fall well under the hour, and we build in time so you reach the terminal unhurried.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Nothing on your side. We monitor the flight from departure, so if you land early or late the driver adjusts and is there when you clear the terminal. The 60 minutes of complimentary wait time covers the usual queues, and because the fare is fixed a delay never changes the price.

Can you take a family with luggage?

Yes. The V-Class seats up to seven with room for cases and is the usual choice for families coming into Battersea. Child and booster seats are available on request at an extra charge – just tell us the ages when you book so they are fitted before the driver leaves for Gatwick.

Which parts of Battersea do you serve?

All of SW11 and the SW8 side towards Nine Elms – the Power Station and the riverside, Battersea Park and the square, the streets up to Lavender Hill and Clapham Junction, and the roads off Queenstown Road and Battersea Park Road. Give us the postcode, and the building name for the new estates, and the driver routes the final approach around it.

Battersea and the South Bank Routes

Battersea sits at the western end of a run of riverside and South Bank routes we cover. Its neighbour just east along the water, the Gatwick to Vauxhall transfer, is from £198, and Elephant and Castle from £198 a little further in. Across into the busier South Bank the prices step up: a Gatwick to Waterloo transfer is from £201 and London Bridge from £230, both deeper into the centre on the south side of the river.

If you are still settling on a destination, the Gatwick to London transfer hub lists every London area we serve with current pricing, and the main Gatwick airport transfers page covers the full picture across hotels, London and beyond. Battersea is handled as one of those London routes, with the same fixed pricing and meet-and-greet. Book through MILE5 and the Battersea to Gatwick return is as simple as the run in.
