Gatwick to Arundel Transfer – Fixed-Price Castle Town Chauffeur

A Gatwick to Arundel transfer is a fixed-price Mercedes chauffeur, around 50 to 70 minutes door to door and from £203 one way, running in both directions whatever the hour. You walk out of arrivals to a driver holding your name, your cases go in, and you are heading for the castle town under the Downs while the taxi rank is still a queue. No meter, no surge, one agreed price each way.

Arundel sits in West Sussex on the River Arun, at the foot of the South Downs, so the run heads south and west and keeps off the M25. We usually drop down the A24 or A29 to join the A27, which brings you in under the castle – around 37 miles and 50 to 70 minutes depending on the hour. The A27 between Worthing and Chichester is the variable stretch, busiest around the Arundel roundabouts, and your driver knows which approach is moving. The timing is built around your landing, not a flat figure, and the route flexes if the road is heavy.

For one person travelling light, the train is a fair shout and we will say so. Arundel has its own station with direct Southern trains from the airport via Horsham, about an hour, but you still walk up the hill from the station into town. With a second person, real luggage or a child seat, the door-to-door car is the simpler answer, and we tell you that rather than push the bigger fare.

MILE5 has run airport transfers and chauffeur trips for more than fifteen years across over 50,000 journeys, and the same fixed-price, licensed service sits behind every Arundel run, out and back. We are TfL licensed (No. 009161) and hold a 5-star Google rating built on travellers who book us again and again.

Every Gatwick to Arundel transfer includes an inside-terminal meet-and-greet at North or South Terminal arrivals, live flight tracking, and 60 minutes of free wait time so a slow bag belt costs you nothing. We absorb the £10 Gatwick drop-off charge and ULEZ where it applies, carry the luggage door to door, and fit child seats on request at an extra charge, around the clock – the same on the Arundel to Gatwick leg home. The E-Class suits a couple or a solo traveller, the S-Class lifts the finish for a business arrival, and the seven-seat V-Class at £303 takes a whole group with the cases to match.

Where We Drop You in Arundel

The town is small and built on a hill, which is the main thing to know. The High Street climbs steeply from the river up towards the cathedral, and parking near the top is limited, so we get you as close to the door as the road allows and you walk the last stretch. The castle entrance is on Mill Road at the bottom; the cathedral and the older streets are at the top; the antique shops and the riverside run along the foot of the hill by the Arun. Beyond the centre, the Wetland Centre is a short way out along Mill Road, and the villages of the Arun valley and the Downs – Burpham, Amberley, Bury – sit just inland. Tell us whether it is a High Street hotel, a riverside inn or a house in one of the villages, with the road name, and the driver lands you at the door rather than near it.

What Brings People to Arundel

The castle is the reason most people come, and it earns the billing. Arundel Castle is the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Norfolk – the Howard family, the premier Catholic dukes of England and hereditary Earls Marshal, the office that organises coronations and state funerals – and the family has held this site since the eleventh century. What you see now is mostly a grand late-Victorian rebuild wrapped around a genuine medieval motte and keep, with forty acres of parkland, the Collector Earl’s Garden and a calendar of jousting and events through the season. Its turrets give the town its storybook skyline.

Facing it across the rooftops is Arundel Cathedral, and the pairing is the making of the view. The 15th Duke of Norfolk commissioned it in 1868 and it opened in 1873, built in soaring French Gothic by Joseph Hansom – the man who invented the Hansom cab – as a Catholic counterpart to the castle. Once a year, around the feast of Corpus Christi, the central aisle is laid with a celebrated Carpet of Flowers, tens of thousands of blooms set out in a single day, followed by a procession down to the castle – a tradition the town has kept for over 140 years. Below the two landmarks, Arundel is a town of antique shops, independent cafes and over two hundred listed buildings, with Swanbourne Lake and the deer park behind the castle and the Wetland Centre’s reed beds just out of town. It is a small place that rewards a slow afternoon.

Chauffeur, Train or Hire Car

Three honest ways to make the run from the airport. Here is the shape of each.

What the Route Has Taught Us

A few notes from driving this one. The A27 at Arundel is the pinch point – the level crossing and the roundabouts can stack traffic at peak – so for a tight outbound flight we leave a margin and watch the live state of the road. The town hill is the other thing: the High Street is steep and stopping near the top is tight, so we set down at the closest sensible point and you walk in. Castle event days and the Corpus Christi weekend fill the town and the car parks, so if you are arriving for either, tell us and we plan around it. The Arundel to Gatwick return for an early flight wants booking the night before – the roads are clear before dawn, but this is not the place to find a 5am cab. If you are pairing Arundel with Chichester, Goodwood or the Downs villages, we can build the stops in.

Meeting You at Gatwick

However the Arundel transfer is booked, your driver tracks the flight and is inside the terminal before you reach the hall. At the North Terminal we wait in arrivals past the baggage doors; at the South Terminal, the same, at the meeting point – never a layby or a phone call across a car park. If you want the layout in advance, our North Terminal guide and South Terminal guide show where arrivals comes out and where the driver stands, and the Gatwick flight information page lets you check the live arrivals board and follow the inbound flight before you travel. Gatwick runs on North and South Terminals only – no numbered terminals – so the meeting point is simple once you know your airline’s side.

Gatwick to Arundel Transfer FAQ

How much is a Gatwick to Arundel transfer?

The run to Arundel starts from £203 in the Mercedes E-Class for up to three passengers, £297 in the S-Class, and £303 in the seven-seat V-Class. The price is fixed, agreed before you travel, the same in both directions, and already covers the meet-and-greet, flight tracking and waiting time.

How long does the journey take, and how far is it?

Around 37 miles and roughly 50 to 70 minutes, heading south and west on the A24 or A29 to the A27 rather than up the M25. The A27 around Arundel is the part that varies, so an early run is quicker and your driver allows for it.

Do you cover Arundel to Gatwick as well?

Yes. The Arundel to Gatwick leg is the same fixed price and the same service in reverse – collected from your hotel, a riverside inn or a village address, with the morning traffic watched and time built in. For early flights we suggest booking the return the night before.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Nothing on your part. We track the flight from take-off, so the driver works to your real landing time, and the 60 minutes of free wait covers a slow passport hall or carousel. A delay does not add anything to the fixed price.

Can you drop us right at the castle or cathedral?

We get you as close as the road allows. The castle entrance is on Mill Road at the bottom of the hill, the cathedral sits at the top, and the High Street between them is steep with limited stopping – so we set down at the nearest sensible point and you walk the last short stretch.

How many passengers and bags can you take?

The E-Class and S-Class carry up to three with cases to match; the V-Class seats up to seven and takes a full group’s luggage, a buggy or golf clubs. If you are unsure which fits, send the numbers and we will tell you straight.

Do you serve the outlying areas – the Arun valley villages?

Yes, the whole Arundel area and the surrounding villages, including Burpham, Amberley, Bury, Walberton and Fontwell. Give us the postcode and you get a fixed quote for that exact door, both ways.

Sussex, the Downs and Beyond

Arundel is one of the Sussex inland and Downs routes we drive from Gatwick, and several pair naturally with it. Just along the A27, the Gatwick to Chichester transfer from £223 reaches the cathedral city and the harbour, while across the county our Gatwick to Lewes transfer from £187 covers the East Sussex county town and Haywards Heath from £131 handles the commuter belt closer in.

For the full set of routes beyond the capital, the Gatwick long-distance transfers hub lists every coastal and county run, and the main Gatwick airport transfers page is where to start if a London hotel or city stop joins the same trip. If you are weighing the chauffeur against collecting a car at the airport, our guide on choosing a chauffeur over a hire car sets out what self-driving after a flight really costs.
